Guys, we are planning to upgrade the forum to proboards v.5 in the near future - at least for a test drive. You will be happy or sad to know that the newer version does not support Karma, but it has many other interesting features (at least that is my understanding). All I will say about Karma right now is that it is subject to abuses in a number of ways and that we have had members complaining about it and even quitting the forum over it. It does not really do what it is supposed to do -- that is, measure the quality of posting or popularity of a poster. It is subject to a number of abuses and the code fixes don't really address the underlying problems. We do have the ability to turn it back on if that's what most of you want, but if we decide to move to the newer version of proboards that doesn't support Karma it'll be gone anyway. +1. The whole karma feature was a bit of a sham. Lost it's meaning when people decided to karma bump each other up. Those who knew each other decided to karma each other up and the "I want karma" thread. There were some with ridiculously high karma scores that had no business being there based on the quality of their posting and others who may have gone against the herd more often than not but usually posted thoughtful, conversation starting topics and posts that didn't get what they deserved. Did it really matter what someones karma score was? Same as post count for me. Doesn't and now didn't mean a whole lot. The forum's better without the gimmicks imo.

My thoughts exactly.

Who cares about karma. If you are friends with someone, they will karma you until there's no tomorrow regardless of what you write. Or, if you are female in a very male dominated forum (not thinking of anyone in particular), then you might end up in the hundreds. For the most part, the karma is a bit of a joke. That's the last I will write of that.

There isn't really anyone in here who takes karma seriously, is there?
It's a damn joke.

Although I was interested to hear how people actually managed to cheat the karma system, sounds like somebody found a bug in the coding of the karma system or something. Sounds like a neat story.

Karma is just a gimmick to attract uninformed American fans...
Oh wait, that's the shootout...
Can't say I'll miss it.

Certain members were abusing it and making work for us. We had a choice to warn, suspend or ban the abusers, leave status quo or suspend it altogether. Since the Karma feature was only of value when it remained fun for everyone who truly cared about it, and it wasn't worth losing members over, putting an end to it for now made the most sense. People actually cared that much about an anonymous online virtual "slap on the back"?

Everyone bitches and moans about a certain poster and then everyone then proceeds to post in those threads, I don't get it If everyone is that concerned about seeing this individual gone then, just ignore every post/thread started by them. Replying with 4+ pages is just giving credence, attention and feeding their ego. Or you can just continue to bitch and moan and argue and complain but they're just a . I didn't want to post this in any of those other threads and this was the next best place. EDIT: I guess I shouldn't have said "everyone". ETA: And I'm not calling anyone out, I seriously do not get why folks would engage this individual.
