Seen this rumour a couple of times now.
I believe the one place I saw it listed Kane, Scheif and a pick for him.
Do we want him and at what price?

No way. Ovechkin on the downside already, and with that contract, for nothing but upside in Kane, Scheif, and a pick? Gross...

He has value, but that price is RIDICULOUS!

He has value, but that price is RIDICULOUS!Pretty much that... I don't even know what I'd give up for him anymore... less than a ppg last season, and 3 pts/8 games this season... he doesn't seem anywhere near the player he was.

Kane might be a little high, but I would jump at the chance to have Alex come to Winnipeg, especially if he is open to it.

Silly rumour but his value is probably at an all-time low. It's fun to discuss because "elite" players don't hit the market very often but I don't think it's part of True North's long term plan.
From Washington's perspective, they'd probably ask for Kane, a high prospect and/or picks. If Chevy could get him for Kane straight up (unlikely but that contract is massive), he'd go for it. Not sure if I'd go for it but both players play a similar role, so we're not losing depth at any position.
We do have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds of the upcoming (deep) draft so there probably could be a decent package put together for him but any way you look at it, we'd probably have to dismantle our future roster to get him, so I'd say pass.

I don't mean to be playing Devil's Advocate, but what's your source on this? That is, where did you see the rumour?
And, no. I would never do this trade. Plain and simple. It would also seem very "out of character" for True North and Cheveldayoff to pull something like that.

That long contract that Ovechkin has nurtured complacency in him. Why does he have to try 110% every night when he is guaranteed all the money he'll ever need?!?

The OVi for Kane and Scheif rumour isnt really a rumour, it was a Caps fan on HFboards in the trade rumour and specualtion section suggesting this trade and wanting to know if people thought the value was fair.
