Goaltending...yes.
However, the Atlanta core needs to go. Too many games watching the other team skate around with the puck unchallenged. Too many Jets standing still or not hustling to the puck. Too many stupid penalties that kill any momentum. Not enough compete to fight their way back into a game.
I'd be fine saying goodbye to Ladd, Tobi, Buff, Bogo. Problem being the return won't be there.
And what does Thorburn have on Chevy that he's still here?

Ryan Reaves does for STL what Thorburn does for the Jets and earns about the same money. Our 4th liners are not the problem.
The core might need a shake up, but a what's the score of the last 3 Jets losses, if those teams had Pavelec, and we had Bishop, Rinne and Hiller?

Goaltending is not even close to the most glaring issue. Lack of heart and desire is the most pressing issue. Ya Pav has that problem too? Pavs has played well. He cannot be criticized for not stealing games. At this point I do not question his heart. I'd commend him for not losing heart playing on a team with none.

If Pavelec had played well he'd have a save percentage of .910 or better. The losses are not on him but that doesn't mean he played well. m.

Numbers are just numbers. Is al Montoya the best goalie in the nhl because he has good numbers after a handful of games? The anti-Pavs crowd can use the numbers. The common sense crowd can watch the games. The team has played horribly in front of him and most of the goals were very difficult. Upgrading goalie is fine. But we will still have a terrible team losing most games. But at least we will have a few more highlight reel "almost saves".

Whether one looks at quality of competition, quality of scoring opportunity, shot totals, or any other metric the same picture always emerges. What you term the 'common sense' crowd is better labelled the 'reality denier' crowd. m.

All of the above and more....
Pav needs a two game rest every 4-5 games-management big error losing Montoya-Hutchinson not NHL caliber.
Need at least two top caliber defencemen-again management failure.
Moving around lines too much-coaching mistake.
Need to trade or release:
Enstrom-good playmaker but opposition forwards push him off the puck too easily.
Thorburn-everyone likes him and has drive, but no hands.
Buff-as Gary Lawless says-you don't know when he is going to show up-trade for top defenceman.
Halischuk- too small and no Martin St Louis.
My Lineup with Kane back:
Line 1-Left Wing=Ladd Center=Little Right Wing=Wheeler Line 2-Kane/Perrault/Bufflyn Line 3-Lowry/Sheiffelee/Frolik Line 4-Galiardi/Slater/Halischuk or Thorburn
Defence: 1. Left Side=Stuart Right Side=Trouba 2. Enstrom/Begosian 3. Pardy/Postma
Power Play: 1. Kane/Little/Buff + D=Stuart/Trouba 2. Lowry/Perrault/Wheeler +D=Pardy/Postma
Choices because:
1. Balance of speed. 2. Players should be on side they shoot. 3. Power play needs the best hands, faceoff men and hardest, most accurate shots.
My 2 cents.

Montoya never showed better than Pavs.
People who use numbers don't seem to watch the actual games.

My 2 cents. First of all, Hutch has what...A game and a bit this season? Give the guy a chance before writing him off. Stuart in the top pairing? On the PP? No thanks. I like Stuart but he's playing up to a second pairing defense right now. He should be on the third pairing imo however we don't have anyone to play in front of him. I was hoping Postma's game picked up and he could challenge for that spot with Trouba. I like Sheifele with Wheeler...they play well together. I like the size and speed there. I'm looking forward to Kane returning to see what we have with those three together. Ladd-Little-Wheeler should never again be a line on this team. Ladd-Little-Frolik looks good to me as a 2nd line. My 3rd would be Lowry-Perrault-Buff. 4th would be Galiardi-Slater-Peluso Thorburn and Halischuk battle it out for the extra man in the pressbox. This lineup only if some core pieces don't get moved like Ladd/Buff/Bogo.

So we win those games with solid goaltending, and score at will because Pavelec is garbage.
