Extensions have been flying around in baseball the past month. Players don't want to go to free agency anymore due to a slow market for players over 30 due to steroid testing/analytics.
List of extensions
1. Nolan Arrenado the best 3rd baseman in the league got an 8 year $260M extension with Colorado. He would have been the prize free agent next winter 2. Pitcher Aaron Nola of the Phillies got a 4 year $45M deal with 2 club options(the 2 club options buy out 2 years of free agency) 3. Utility infield Brandon Lowe of Tampa Bay got a 6 year $24M extension with 2 club options buying out 2 years of free agency. He's only played about half a season Last but not least the Chicago White Sox signed the 2nd best prospect in baseball Eloy Jimenez to a 6 year $43M extension with a pair of club options that brings the total value to $77M. The 2 club options buy out 2 years of free agency. Jimenez has never played in an MLB game yet. The Sox get a steal assuming he's close to a star and keep him until he's 30, Jimenez gets the security.

Next years star free agent class has just about been wiped out.

Thinking about it, it would be a great idea for the Blue Jays to lock up the top prospect in baseball Vlad Guerrero Jr. even though he's never played in a major league game to a similar deal to the White Sox/Eloy Jimenez.

More extensions the past week
18. Ace Justin Verlander got a 2 year $66M extension with Houston(He would have been a free agent after the year) 19. CY Young winner Jacob deGrom of the Mets got a 5 year $137.5M extension with the Mets with a club option. He can also opt out after the 2022 season. At least he will be with the team an extra 2 years than he would have been taking him to his age 34/35 season. 20. Pitcher Kyle Hendricks of the Cubs got a 4 year $55.5M extension with 2026 club option/vesting option for CY young finish. He would have been a free agent in 2 years, so he will be with the team at least 3 to 4 more extra years 21. 26 year old Red Sox star shortstop Xander Bogarts got 5 year $120M extension today. He would have been a free agent after the year. He can opt out after the 2022 season at 30 years old.
It's rumored 3rd baseman Anthony Rendon will get an extension with Washington too. If true only pitcher Garrett Cole be the only star free agent next winter. MLB free agency is almost dead with all these extension.

22. The Atlanta Braves have signed Ronald Acuna to a 8 year $100M contract with 2 club options worth $17M dollars for each year, making it realistically a 10 year $134M extension. Acuna would have been a free agent in 6 years at age 27. Now he will be a free agent in 10 years at age 31. It was expected Acuna could have gotten half a billion dollars in 6 years since he's likely the best young player in the game. I assume Acuna wanted the security instead since he's from Venezuela and it has collapsed.

It's raining extensions LOL
23. German Marquez the Rockies good young starting pitcher has signed a 5 year $43M extension with a club option that turns into a mutual option if he has 2 top 3 CY young award finishes. He would have been a free agent after the 2022 season at age 28. Now at least the Rockies have him 1 more year and likely 2 since I doubt he gets 2 top 3 CY young finishes pitching at altitude.

27. Ozzie Albies Atlanta Braves 2nd baseman got a 7 year $35M extension with 2 club options for $7M each. If exercised which they will be he will be with Atlanta an extra 3 years until he is 30. This is the most team friendly deal of possible of all time!!!!
28. Kris Davis Oakland A's DH who has hit 40 home runs each of the past few years has agreed to a 2 year $33.5M extension. He would have been a free agent after the year. He won't hit free agency until 34 years old now. LOL at the A's even getting in on the extension act.
