1:14 into their season opener with the Providence Bruins, the St. John's IceCaps scored the first goal of the AHL season as well as the IceCaps franchise history. Mark Flood from Marco Rosa and Spencer Machacek. GO ICECAPS!! Looks the the Ice Caps are off to a good start. Flood records historic first marker for new St. John’s team. IceCaps win inaugural game Mark Flood scored the first goal in the St. John’s IceCaps’ history to help propel the newest American Hockey League team to victory in its inaugural game Friday night, a 4-1 win over the Providence Bruins. Flood’s slapshot from the blueline beat Bruins netminder Anton Khudobin at 1:15 of the first period to start the scoring. It also made Flood the answer to a trivia question years from now, when people ask who scored the first IceCaps’ goal. Maxime Sauve’s goal three minutes later left teams tied 1-1 entering the second period. From there it was all IceCaps, as the Winnipeg Jets primary affiliate got goals from defenceman Paul Postma, Carl Klingberg and newly-appointed team captain Jason Jaffray, on a short-handed effort early in the third periodstjohnsicecaps.com/article/icecaps-win-inaugural-game/

I took a look at the AHL site and it feels empty without the Moose..
Congratulations to the Icecaps, I look forward to following them this year.

Ice Caps win their second game 1-0! Took them TWO GAMES. My local team (wilkes-barre) took over a full season to get a shutout (7-0 in November 2000)
