...the NHL should consider going the way of the NFL/CFL where the officials can get together after a play is over and discuss whether or not to cancel the penalty that would have been called on a player. Screw this Baseball-esque "The Ref/Ump is always right" mentality.
You all know what I'm referring to and why...
Thoughts?

Its a slippery slope, if they can do that then can they review offsides, icing, etc etc. Plus in the NFL/CFL penalties are not reviewable.
Reffs make mistakes like they did there and you can be assured it will happen again, you just have to hope that the team plays well enough to win despite it.

They used to say that in Tennis too...best sport going regarding this topic. Video and replay is a modern miracle/convenience that should be used. What about the idea of a certain number of challenges? (3?) This concept would have killed that horrible call on Buff in the opener.

Ok so say we allow challenges in hockey, where is the line drawn? After a goal is scored can you go back and review whether a player was offside 1 minute ago and negate a goal from that?
Yeah we got screwed by a bad call and guess what at some point the other team will get screwed by a bad call and we'll be on the other side of this. You cant blame the loss on that call, why couldnt our PP score on a 5 on 3? It was a bad call but they have to be able to battle through that period.
Plus lets say the CFL/NFL/NHL allow penalties to be challengable, thats a huge can of worms in regards of determining if it was the right call, not all calls are as black and white as that one.
Tennis is a totally different example.

well i understand your point ^ selanne but, we can in fact point to that call as a pivitol moment that did change the game. it cost us. do we win the game if that call wasnt made?....who knows?...i do know that at the time all the momentum had swung our way and we were rolling. but yes of course you are right, that call will get evened out over the course of the season and i like the rules as they are. no need to change anything, except to get rid of the 2nd on ice ref. throw him up in the press box and mic him up to the ref and call the game from there.

The reff made a stupid call no doubt but the bigger problem is that the boys let the stupid call completely destroy all that momentum and from then on the Habs went on to score 3 unawsered goals.

I hate this idea. Mistakes are going to happen, this call didn't cost the Jets the game.
They had tons of shots on goal, they just didn't bury their chances

its not that they didnt bury them its that carey price decided he wasnt going to let a goal in unless they ran him over first.
