Jets sign former Moose King
Pure goal scorer headed to the Rock

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets have brought in some talented local content and it looks like it’s applying that same theory to its American Hockey League affiliate in St. John’s, N.L.
Sources told the Winnipeg Sun on the weekend the Jets are close to coming to terms with winger Jason King, a Corner Brook, N.L., product who spent the past three seasons playing in the Deutschland Elite League in Germany and previously spent parts of three seasons with the Manitoba Moose.
King is a pure goal scorer who put up 58 goals and 58 assists for 116 points with the Moose and also enjoyed a brilliant stretch in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks in 2003-04 that saw him put up 12 goals and 21 points in 47 games while spending time playing on a line with Henrik and Daniel Sedin.
King dealt with concussion woes during the 2005-06 season and left the Moose/Canucks organization after the season to sign with Skelleftea HC in the Swedish Elite League. He returned to North America the following season, playing four games for former Moose coach Randy Carlyle with the Anaheim Ducks. He spent the majority of the campaign with the AHL’s Portland Pirates.
King put up 29 goals and 59 points in 65 games with the Pirates, but decided to head back overseas the following season with the Mannheim Eagles in the DEL.
The past two seasons, King had 41 goals and 36 assists for 77 points in 103 games with the Hamburg Freezers.
It’s believed the Jets would offer King an AHL contract, but if he shows the scoring touch he’s displayed in the past, he could be signed to a two-way NHL deal and help provide some scoring depth for the Jets.
King, chosen in the seventh round (212th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Canucks, has 12 goals and 23 points in 59 NHL games.
