The Winnipeg Jets are the Winnipeg Jets.
I sometimes get annoyed over this 1.0 vs 2.0 crap. But I guess that is just a way to distinguish between the two NHL eras.
I'm not bothered that we can't carry over the stats and records of the old team. When the Jets merged into the NHL in 1979, their WHA stats became dormant. They are a part of Winnipeg's hockey history but they just didn't get carried over.

in my mind, the team we watch here is both the new franchise but also brings the past history with it. The only part of the Jets that rests in PHX are the stats and the "ring of honour". Ok and maybe Ernie Nairn's son. not meaning to bash your thoughts but this new franchise had nothing to do with the one in Glendale , but what i will give is the fact this city had an NHL team but mind you they did not do much when it came to Stanly Cup finals games they maid the playoffs a couple times but got knocked out right a way , my opinion i would rather be pushing for the future more then the past .

man that thinking is gona jink the whole franchise , that franshise has never won a stanly Cup nothing the only good thing they did was in the WHL, all i gota say to that is stay in Glendale . After the way you acted yesterday, you have no right to be critical of anyone on this forum. Drinking over 12 beers and typing incoherent and rambling statements is one thing. But to brag about it on half your posts means you either have a serious drinking problem or are here to disrupt the forum. PS....The Jets won three WHA Avco Cup championships before the NHL stripped them of all their star players. thats the exact point i was trying to get at is the only time they did go was in the WHA thats it .

If you want to play that game, the "franchise" currently known as the Winnipeg Jets has done even less than the original Winnipeg Jets. Who cares? As was said, the Winnipeg Jets are the Winnipeg Jets. I am unconcerned about franchise technicalities.

The WHA days where time's of glory and heck we even had Bobby Hull he is the greatest of ever .but yes some people do have a point about the team from 1979 to 1996 its part of winnipeg's history but ONLY winnipegs history the City of winnipeg , this team has absolutely nothing to do with the one that left hear in 1996 heck the one that left hear in 1996 the new franchise was not even thought of back then and i am just speaking the truth .

I would rather you just write this in Chinese so I can just pass right by this because what is written by you is not English. Re-read your posts before you hit the reply button because 9 out of 10 of them make absolutely no sense. My head hurts

Very difficult to comprehend what the poster is writing, do we have an ignore feature?

I didn't see Jets 1.0, obviously, but I always thought, technicalities notwithstanding, most Winnipeggers considered the 1972-1996 and 2011-present Jets one and the same, or to put it another way, these Jets are the reincarnation of the old Jets? The Jets didn't lose to the Former Jets tonight.. They lost to Gary Bettman's Desert Dogs (also known as the 2012-13 Quebec Nordiques.) The Yotes have NO claim to the 1972-96 history. And OH! TEEMU SELANNE SCORES!!! PPG!!! 1-0 DUCKS AHEAD OF THE SHARKS!!!

And apparently that ties him with Brendan Shannahan for All-Time Power Play Goals!
Way to go, Teemu!

Franchise records and stats are legal technicalities.
Just because the 1972-79 Jets were in the WHA and their stats aren't recognized and is seen by the NHL as a separate entity does not mean they did not exist and aren't considered the Jets. Same with the original NHL era, and same with today.
Manitobans created, nurtured, paid for and supported all of those teams... and they are all the same thing to me.
