Who's your provider? Watching Flames-Oilers on Sportsnet West HD right now on Shaw 218 in glorious HD.
But I guess I checked on the SD channel 47 on it's not there. It's on the guide but blank on my screen.

With what Hank has provided, it would seem that the SD should be available (not blacked out) as well.

actually at work we have the standard shaw package. ch 47 for sportsnet. the game between the flames and oilers was supposed to be on. but all we saw was a frozen screen showing the logos of the teams a snapshot of the arena and a caption saying coming up.

Huh aren't they the same channel? Why would one be blacked out and not the other one?

Ya, I had nothing, just a black screen. Strange.

I have Shaw and the games are on HD only. Is there some rule that HD is a preimer services and cant be blacked out? I know Bomber games that are blacked out local you still get in HD only, is this the same thing for the hockey on sportsnet west???

I know Bomber games that are blacked out local you still get in HD only, is this the same thing for the hockey on sportsnet west??? It has nothing to do with being a premier service but it is for the same reason as with the Bomber games. Like someone else said, I don't know the technicalities behind it but with SD you are watching a regional channel (CBC Winnipeg, TSN Winnipeg, SNet Wpg (I think), etc). HD you are watching a feed that is based somewhere else, generally toronto for TSN and CBC but Alberta for Sportsnet West. They just don't have the technical ability it appears to black out a national HD channel regionally, because say when a Bomber game gets blacked out it appears to the TV like we are watching the Toronto HD station, not the the WInnipeg one. That's why on Saturdays CBC SD shows us Jets games now, but the HD is showing Leafs. Cuz that's a Toronto channel and is also the reason why it's not blacked out.

Bombers arent blacked out in HD because TSN has the one main HD feed across Canada so they either black out the entire country or no one.
