Post suggestions here. I'm mostly a 'classic' rock type guy, but I'm trying to give some of the newer music a chance. So what's good/great now! Thx.

The Foo Fighters are pretty damn good if you ask me. Velvet Revolver was also good, but they're in a hiatus right now.

Volbeat is probably the only band I listen to that could fall into the "modern rock" category:

Music is very good right now. Napster's been kind to the industry in that it's easier for bands to get their stuff heard, get a tour going, hone their craft, etc. The only big, big money acts are the dinosaurs on tour. AC/DC, The Eagles, U2. Not bad stuff at all, it's just the big money is in ticket sales nowadays and their longevity has exposed them to pretty much everybody by now. While it's sad that there are going to be less monster bands like the 70s and 80s, a lot more people can make a go of music as a career instead of the boom or bust and one hit wonder days. Just stay away from Power 97. Most of that stuff is crap. Here's some good stuff. Quite an eclectic list, too. British pub/folk rock, hard punk, prog punk, prog rock, stadium rock, psychedelic rock, dance rock and a Canadian supergroup of sorts. Not my words. Only one of these bands had albums out before 2000, the oldest song (Run Christian Run) is from 2001. Everything else is 2004 or later.
Mumford & Sons
Don't let the Grammy win fool you, the Arcade Fire are great. Kinda prog-rock like a David Bowie or Roxy Music type thing. I've been a huge fan since Funeral came out in 2004. The show they played here in support of it 5 years ago or so at the Burt sold out in less than a week.
The New Pornographers are consistently awesome
The Paul Rudd bit is part of the vid...
Cold Cave, kinda got a Depeche Mode feel:
blank ed Up. 8 minute punk songs. They won the Polaris Prize in 07, and just put out a punk concept album 'David Comes to Life'. Damian Abraham, the singer (screamer?) is the current host of the Wedge on MuchMusic.
Muse is pretty good. A critic said that singer/guitarist tried to become both Brian May and Freddie Mercury on the latest album, and it pretty much sold me.
Love the Super Furry Animals
Bloc Party had one of the best shows I've ever been to a couple years back
And my current obsession Titus Andronicus. Their 2010 album The Monitor is one of the best I've heard in the past five years, another punk concept album, this one loosely about the Civil War.

And because there's a MASSIVE thread on the main page about John Samson's comments regarding the logo, here are the Weakerthans. I actually quite like them. I think they represent Winnipeg well. Kinda like Sonic Youth or The Strokes for NY, the Dropkick Murphys for Boston and all those 80s hair metal bands did for LA. They're arguably more well know outside of Canada than inside.
Not sure what city the fan was shooting for that last vid.

I'm not sure why, but lately I have been listening to Amy Winehouse. Back to Black was a really great album.

The Muse, Mumford and sons, and Arcade Fire for sure!

The Foo Fighters are pretty damn good if you ask me. No kidding. Drummer in Nirvana to singer/guitarist of the Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl is pretty impressive.

Nirvana is the one band that I can remember first hearing, and immediately thinking "this band is going to change music!" In 1991, I was a young teenager and the flavour of the day was bands like Poison, Warrant, Extreme, Skid Row, Cinderella, and other "hair bands." Looking back, most of the hair bands sucked, as all they would sing about is getting chicks and acting tough.
Nirvana meant something. They single handedly ended the hair band era of the 80's, and opened the door for other bands like Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Sonic Youth, Stone Temple Pilots, Hole, Veruca Salt, Dinosaur Jr., and Mudhoney to enter the mainstream.
Videos don't even do them justice. I wish I had seen them live.
