Editorial: Here’s our solution: deal Lou for Vincent Roberto Luongo’s on-again, off-again relationship with Canucks’ fans wasn’t helped any Tuesday night by his team’s lacklustre 4-0 loss to the New York Rangers. Despite stellar regular-season play and his Olympic gold medal, many fans believe the brooding, somewhat joyless Mr. Luongo is incapable of carrying the team to Lord Stanley’s promised land. The loss to the Rangers wasn’t Luongo’s fault entirely; the forwards lacked finish despite generating 40 shots. But it was Luongo who was judged the heel, with fans delivering a Bronx cheer when he handled a simple shot after letting in the third of four goals. Patience has clearly run out, especially with backup Cory Schneider appearing to be the better player. Many people say the Canucks made a huge mistake in signing Lou to a 12-year, $64-million no-trade contract in 2009 because it makes parting with him impossible. So here’s our solution. Trade Luongo straight up for Vincent Lecavalier of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who has a similar, $85-million, 11-year no-trade deal. With Steve Stamkos in Tampa, Lecavalier is no longer top dog and could use a fresh start as much as Lou. Tampa needs better goaltending; we need a power forward. Lou’s wife could finally be closer to her family, and Lecavalier could play hockey again in a city that actually cares about his sport. It’s a win-win-win-win (Lou, Vince, Cory, fans) solution. What do you expect, its Vancouver. Lack of sunshine makes em all a tad cranky out there in lotus land. How many days of sunshine do those poor buggers get per year?? 3 days maybe?? Picking on poor old Lou, just because he can't win the big one! ;D

If the people of Vancouver keep this up Luongo might just demand a trade on his own.

I'll take Timmy Thomas, Jonas Hiller, Ryan Miller, Jonathan Quick, Henrik Lundqvist...
For starters over Bobby Lou...just too inconsistent.

The Sedins were a big force in the Final last year, maybe they should trade them too

WOW I bet lots of big name free agents will want to sign in vancouver where you can win a gold medal for the country 1 season, fall 1 game short of the stanley cup the next and then be booed by fans after having a few bad games the next season. I really dont like to generalize a fan base as big as vancouver's but man canuck fans are effing ridiculous

He was hot as heck when he first came to Vancouver. The year they made it to the 2nd round he was the ONLY reason why they made it by Dallas in the 1st round. But ever since Vancouver got good as a team, he got worse as a goalie, especially in the big games (playoffs). Canada won the gold medal DESPITE their goaltending. Remember Kesler saying "Luongo looks a little shaky in there, we'll get one by him"? It was shocking that he said it, but we were all thinking it. Luongo looks like he's fighting the puck these days. It's been going on for years now, so it's not like he's beeing booed ONLY because of how he's played in a few games this year. He's been weak when it mattered for a couple seasons now.

I havent followed the Canucks as closely as you becasue I kind of hate them lol. However building on a point you made, Luongo carried the nucks through Dallas, then next round they faced the team that I cheered for in the Jets' absence, Anaheim. The ducks won the series 4 games to 1 but had it not been for Luo it would have been a sweep without a doubt, Luongo gave them a chance in every game of the series, I remember the game ending series Luongo stood on his head for 5 periods and the rest of the team did crap all, the Ducks won off a really lucky goal but had Luongo not played as great as he did the game never would have been in double ot. I was just trying to point off that Canuck fans seem to go from loving a goalie who helps win the gold medal, yeah he didnt play amazing but he still got the job done (Brodeur looked like crap), to hating and wanting him traded really REALLY fast. I really doubt free agents look at that and think thats its a city they would want their family to live in. I really dont think you can blame the game 7 loss on Luongo, the canucks as a whole played like a pile of steaming poo

selanne405 - I hear what your saying, and I agree, he was amazing that year against the Stars/Ducks. He was the only reason why they beat the Stars and the only thing that kept the Ducks from embarassing the Canucks.
I used to be a HUGE luongo fan. I thought he had a chance to be the greatest goalie of all time (I liked him since he played in the WJC in Winnipeg in 1999). So that's why I can say this with just about as little bias as anyone: I went from being a huge fan to thinking he's a liability on the ice.
I don't know what happened, but his play in the playoffs for the past 3 seasons has simply not been good. That's 3 long years that it took for my thoughts on him to finally change, but anyone watching him closely would have seen it.
Maybe he just needs a change of scenery, I'm not sure. But since May, I've just been hoping he would finally start playing well, so that Vancouver would deal Schneider to the Jets!
(PS - it didn't take long at all to start hating Vancouver or Ottawa!)

HAHA I wont be able to hate the Ducks until Selanne/Carlyle are outta the picture, althought mind you that Perry/Getzlaf/Ryan line is fairly deadly so once were in the west with them and play them more often it may happen quicker. I guess its sorta a Joe Thorton situation, the guy can be magic in the regular season and become a ghost in the playoffs, except Joe plays in California and Luo plays in hockey crazy Vancouver.

Lou does not deserve what he's getting...poor guy sorry, but Lou is getting EXACTLY what he deserves. he is overrated. he sucked in the Olympics too. always good for letting in a crappy goal. he stinks.
