...full of sound and fury, SIGNIFYING NOTHING.
200th post, and so I post about my hero, William Shakespeare...
The reason I AM an English major, and why I hope to be a writer someday...even though I could never be a thousandth as talented as Will!
But, sadly, some feel the need for either intellectual snobbery--"An actor with a merchant background couldn't POSSIBLY have penned the greatest works of the English language...never mind many authors of this era were, in fact, authors, or that he did go to school and learned Greek and Roman stories, or that many authors in history have come from working-class backgrounds, no, THIS is absurd!"--or else are just hungry for a conspiracy theory--"So WHAT if Edward De Vere would've had to write A Midsummer Night's Dream when he was 9 for the theory to work...so WHAT if the Globe Theatre was putting on new 'Shakespeare plays' for 10 years after he died...so WHAT if the entire idea requires restructing a timeline that is otherwise sound and has no reason to restructure other than for the sake of this speculation with no substance...THIS MUST BE THE TRUTH!"--and so this film is out.
"Anonymous."
And I'm seeing it with friends--damn them--tommorow...much to my chagrin and their laughing glee at how funny I'll look getting pissed off at the spew onscreen (Schaudenfreude at its finest, folks.)
So--has anyone seen it yet?
Thoughts?
If anyone believes this bunk...please let me know...this is the Moon Landing Hoax Theory of the English major world, so trust me, I have PLENTY to shoot this down with...
Or if anyone ELSE just loves Shakespeare and is inspired by the man and his work and wants to chat a bit about it...that works too...
Oh, cursed spite, that ever I was born to set it right!
