So I dont get it. how can they "knock off " a jersey that hasnt been released yet? Once the "real" one is released if the stripes etc are off the laugh is on the buyer ....no? Or do we know what the "final" product will look like? We don't at this point, so what is currently being sold is a wild guess, basically. However, after the real jerseys are released, more accurate knockoffs will become available.

Support our team. Enough said. I don't think it's as simple as that. Does that mean you shouldn't drink anything but $10 MTS Centre beer on game day? Does that mean you should only shop at the Jets store? There are many ways to support the team and people are free to choose what they are able to do.

I'm just pointing out other examples of what could be interpreted as "not supporting the team".

This is such an interesting predicament. Is this "fake" jersey actually the real design, or just a twitter pic assumed to be the real thing and then mass produced? If it is the real design, what does TN do now? Do they just go ahead and release it, knowing that it leaked, or do they go in a totally different direction to combat the fakes? I am very curious to see how this is going to turn out.

I wouldn't compare it like that, i'm trying to say it support legit merchandise because it goes towards the team merchandise revenue, adding to the team's success. I would feel better knowing that i'm putting my money towards merchandise revenue for our team rather than towards someone else trying to make profit somewhere in a chinese sweat factory. To each his own though.

There are other options when you can't afford a jersey-nice hoodies, player Ts, etc. I will be buying a few jerseys, but if I couldn't I'd rather have some legitimate stuff than buying something that may be going to fund some shady overseas. There are differences though-if you watched the playoffs this year it seemed half the city of Vancouver was wearing knock-off Canucks jerseys-probably better in a riot, but they could definitely be noticed on TV. I agree there are other options like T-Shirts. However, if there is some poor kid out there with a poor family and his desire is to own a jersey of his favorite team and the dad who works 3 jobs just to make ends meet gets him a jersey of his sons favorite player on his favorite team and he can do it for $60 and get his soon a cake, I won't be the one to point fingers and boo the guy. Yes I realize its a long winded possibly far stretched situation, but while I agree that one should support locally, support their teams with "real" jerseys, and don't want people to choose the cheap way if they have the money...I will not get mad at those who choose to go the fake route. There are cases were it is just the smart thing to do.

No matter your point of view:
The Jets only receive 1/30 of the licensing royalties (which is the majority of the cost), whether items are sold at Royal Sports, River City Sports, or some kiosk at a mall in San Diego or Philadelphia. That's it.
They only make a bit more from the mark up they charge by selling stuff in their own store, but they're still competing with their partners like River City and Royal locally who charge the same mark up.
It's not like TN will be getting $300 from every jersey sold. I would suggest it hurts local businesses like Royal and River City as much as it does True North, by buying knockoffs.

The jerseys will have to be released before NHL 12 comes out on Sept 13 we know that much. I'm wondering how tight lipped EA is about the jersey as they will have to have some prior knowledge.

There are cases were it is just the smart thing to do. Very hard to argue with that one-however, the people who could afford lower bowl tickets in Vancouver for the playoffs probably were not working three jobs. Knockoffs were rampant inside the arena there as well. It is a tough issue to speak in absolutes on-and tough to argue with the relative cost of the jerseys-but I'd still prefer people by the legit stuff as often as possible.

I can't wait until the Jets store gets more organized and more stock in. I understand they are racing to get things ready, but I have been to River City a couple of times and they seem to have more variety in stock, but at $5-$10 more per item than the Jets store is charging. I am not too excited to overpay, but TN needs to speed things up if they want to keep their profits on merch.

I agree with everything you are saying here, I too wish more would buy legit, I just know that sometimes money simply says get the cheap one and refuse to get angry at those that go that way.

I've gone back and forth on this so many times. Some great points on both ends. To me, as long as you're wearing Jets gear, that's all I care about fake, not fake, handmade or whatever. I've seen people make homemade t-shirts to go to games, another dude at Moose games always wore a Hawerchuk sweater that I swear his grandma knitted for him but it looked awesome. Only thing I really hate are those people that wear a Tom Brady or Jose Bautista jersey to a hockey game. Same with wearing a team's jersey who isn't even playing (like an Oilers jersey to a Jets/Hawks game). In the end I just want to see 15,000 Jets jerseys/shirts/whatevers every night at the PhoneBooth. I don't care if it's legit or not. We're all supporting the team by being there. That being said, I will buy a real jersey cuz I can afford it, but I understand why others may go another way.
