Good morning everyone!
In last night's tilt with Norfolk...
Mannino was outstanding. Other then the fact you need offense to win a game, he was a giant reason the Caps got last nights win. Despite ample traffic, Mannino always seemed to find the puck quickly through a maze off feet. Square to the puck and was challenging shooters all night. Really impressive victory for him last night. 1st Star.
Klingberg/Cormier. Line ups were jostled around last night. Klingberg (undoubtedly our best forward) was playing on the 3rd line with Cormier and Weller. Only reasoning I can figure is to try and get Cormier going. When Klingberg is on the ice he's always creating and making things happen. Cormier despite not having a shot, spent more time in the offensive zone tonight then he has nearly any other home game. Klingberg is to thank for this, as he's consistently pushing the play and fore-checking relentlessly.
Cormiers fight was a nice tilt. The guy is frustrated I'm sure and trying to contribute. Sticking up for your teammate is one way to earn some respect. Especially here in St. John's, do we ever love our hockey fights! Cormier landed some nice punches, scored the take-down. Slight edge to Cormier.
Machacek is without a doubt one of my favorite players. This guy is just a hockey player. Driving to the net, working the boards and corners. Great hockey IQ, doesn't have Klingbergesque hands, but he shows flashes of what he is capable of. Just a hockey player, that's all I can say really.
Postma. Scary in his own end and breaking out into the Neutral Zone. Offensive zone he's fine. He has the ability to develop into a PP quarterback. Giveaways and trying to take a hard route over an easy play in your own end are his downfall. IMHO he has an awful lot of Defensive zone coverage to learn before he cracks the NHL full-time. Like most of you Manitoba Moose fans know, in the AHL you can have a mistake or 2 and it won't cost you. In the NHL, 1 mistake and your down 1 zip.
Have a great day guys!
Cheers.
