I said in a couple other forums I was looking for a 25-man All-Time Winnipeg Jets (1972-96 team and the new one, both counts, SCREW the Yotes, they inherit your records in name only!)
The reason why is, once NHL 12 comes out, I'll be starting, at long last, my All-Time NHL Season!
I do the same sort of mod for MLB and Madden NFL games:
25-man teams (Madden's teams are lager, due to the size of an NFL team)
ALL eras of the teams' existence are taken into account
The best of the best are chosen for that team
Players ONLY can play for one team, so they go to the team that they "meant to the most to," ie, who they had the biggest numbers and most success with Shampionship-wise and otherwise.
(As a result, as I said before, Teemu's on my All-Time Ducks and Bobby Hull skates for the All-Time Blackhawks, but anyone else to wear the Winnipeg White is fair game.)
So this thread will serve first as a "pre-season" affair while we all await the game, where I can hopefully draw on the expertise of some truly great and knowledgable hockey fans...
I know a good deal of hockey history, but I won't pretend I know enough to be called an "expert" even by an armchair definition of that term...so while I compile the rosters for all the teams, I'd LOVE some input.
So--I've already seen suggestions for the All-Time Jets team--any other All-Time team roster suggestions?
Can anyone else come up with a 25-man All-Time roster for the Canadiens? Red Wings? Kings? (I can't stand any of those teams!)
Or just any other team?
How about features of this league set-up? I'll be starting the "All-Time Season" thread as soon as the teams are ready and the first puck drops, how would you like to see that progress?
And do you have picks and predictions?
Will the All-Time Jets make the playoffs? (I don't know yet if they'll be East or West, it depends on if NHL 12 lets me change their division.)
Will the woeful Islanders overcome present failures and lead a playoff charge led by their Legends of the 80s team?
How will the Oilers' dynasty team headed by Gretzky and Messier match up with the likes of the Yzerman/Federov/Shannahan Red Wings, or the Canadiens Dynasty over the ages?
How will successful expansion teams like my Ducks, the Sharks, and Lightning fare against the rest of the pack--will they make the cut?
And how long until the All-Time Coyotes become the All-Time Coyotiques?
PLEASE let me know, let's make this a fun, forum-community project...
The greatest players of All-Time in one 82-game season and 4-round playoff set:
WHAT will the Scoring Leaders List look like at the end of the year?
WHICH goalies will stay the stingiest over the stretch?
And WHO will drink from Lord Stanley's Cup for All-Time?
An eternal Rink of Dreams...where EVERY TEAM gets their moment of glory and NO TEAM gets re-located!
(Unless if they're located in Phoenix...and, hockey-gods willing, Florida!)
