Top 10 Regional Television Audiences for NHL clubs (09-’10)
Six of the top nine regional television audiences in the National Hockey League during the 2009-’10 regular season were held by Canada’s six NHL franchises; including the top four in Montreal (which uses national French-language carrier RDS as its regional rights holder), Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary. Defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh rounds out the top five as measured by average number of viewers per regular season game broadcast. The disparity between the top three clubs in Canada’s three largest media markets and the rest of the league is significant: average viewership for Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver is larger than the cumulative audiences for the NHL’s next 10 clubs combined.
