For one thing, Lawless has only been a Pegger since '99 - thus he never had any connection or memory of the original Jets (which is why he was so against calling the new team that name).
He actually felt they should of been named Manitoba Moose.
LOL!

Well, not to defend Gary Lawless or anything, but if (in all fairness) you are giving Grades based on points without bias, as of today, Jets are in the bottom 20% of the league (along with Car, Cal, Ana, NYI, Col and CLB.
Assuming every team had equal opportunity to win each game, and each team had similar expectations, and each franchise had the same goal of winning the Stanley Cup, then the top 20% all get "A's", the next 20% all get "B's", the next 20% all get "C's", the next 20% get "D's" and the bottom 20% (unfortunately where the Jets stand as of today) should get "F's"
Of course, some will say that Winnipeg might be doing "OK" and deserve a "C" because of the circumstances of relocation, the heavy road schedule, or merely because of their recent success ...
Ultimately, only one grade matters, and that is your total points which separate the contenders from the pretenders. All is else is pure speculation until April ...

I don't have a problem with Gary's grading. The Jets are out of the play-offs right now, and they have had a few really bad games. Their play as of late has improved, but They certainly don't deserve A's or B's. In my book; F is a little harsh. I would reserve that for a team that is at the salary cap, and still dead last in the conference (ie: Columbus), but a D or E might not be un-called for. I really don't think Gary hates the Jets or Winnipeg or anything like that. He's just being a critic. That's sort of his job.

I give Gary Lawless an F for journalism. He just embarrassed Winnipeg and the Jets on national tv. Being controversial doesn't make people listen to you if you can't back it up with intelligent commentary. Why is he even covering the Jets? He doesn't know squat about hockey. He says that the team would give themselves a fail because our goal is to make the playoffs. How does that make sense. Ask Noel what he would give the Jets. It wouldn't be an F. Calgary's local hockey guy didn't even give them an F and I'm pretty sure they want to make the playoffs.
Lawless also told us fans to F' off on 1290 this morning for standing up for our team. Same guy who said that it would be 'suiting' for Doug Brown to lose his last game as he has lost so many big games in his career. No class on the part of Lawless. Why does he hate all Winnipeg teams. I switch to CJOB when he comes on the radio.

On the subject of grading the Jets at this time, while I don't agree with the 'F', I do think they don't even deserve a C+.
I would give the Jets a C-.
IMO.

GL is taking the easy way out, the sole basis for his grade was based on nothing more than conversations/interviews with Coach Noel and the players.
He can't give you an informed opinion on how the team is playing because he has absolutely no idea, simple as that.
Maybe Coach Noel and the players should have told him that they had no plans whatsoever of making it to the playoffs, they'd have probably gotten an A+....
I mean c'mon, every team goes into the season with some sort of expectation of getting into the post season whether they be high or low there's still that thought. If there wasn't, then why even bother lacing them up, right?
I agree with most here, he comes off as arrogant and peevish with a little dash of self centeredness to round it out.

^ This is getting a little silly people Yes and no. The F rating thing is, I honestly don't have a problem with calling a team out of a playoff spot a failure. But if people don't like a reporter, I think it's fair to say so. Personally, I don't mind him as a columnist but I think he's the worst radio personality I've ever seen. I'm sorry, but they are different skills and Gary just can't speak well enough to do radio! If you want to get someone fired from 1290 though I think it should be Westwood. If he talks about the Bombers I guess that's fair, but yesterday I almost pulled out my hair listening to him go on a big long ramble about why the Jets should play more defensive in overtime against Eastern Conference teams, so they can play for a tie and not give our competition an extra point. Finally Jay Richardson tried to save him by saying "well obviously there are no ties, someone gets a 3rd point but this could help get them to a shootout". The guy doesn't even know how overtime works in hockey! How is he getting paid to analyze the Jets on-air?
