I figured this is the most appropriate section for this topic as ppl that post here may be more familiar with junior hockey.
How does USHL compare to CHL (QMJHL, OHL, WHL) and to CJHL (OJHL, MJHL, BCHL, etc)?
I know teams consisting of American players from the USHL have taken part in the World Junior A Challenge, which suggest USHL is more comparable to CJHLs rather than Major Junior Leagues; however, it is clear the USHL likes to see itself as a league similar to the CHL.
Thoughts?
Edit: it appears that a team consisting of top players from the USHL came in 3rd in the recent World Junior A Challenge. Canada West won the tournament and Canada East took 2nd place. The Canadian teams were regional teams made up of Jr. A players. This suggests USHL is more comparable to the various CJHLs, although it was just one tournament and the US team had won the tournament in 3 previous years.

I'd say it goes CHL > USHL > Junior A. Naturally some Junior A leagues are better than others in Canada, namely the BCHL, OJHL and the MJHL. Those are probably the only ones you hear anything about these days anyways. The MJHL used to be for the most part low quality, but it has improved a lot in recent years. You only players you hear about playing Junior A either way are those preparing to go to college in the United States.

Looking at the entry draft gives the impression that USHL is superior to Junior A. There were 3 first round selections from the USHL, Junior A only a handful of picks in the later rounds. I think Turris was taken 3rd overall from the junior A but it's rare for a star to be playing there.

I'm curious as to how many players drafted in the 1st round played for that team, which consists of the elite US players U18.

You should also take into consideration that the CJHL provides the CHL with players on occasion. For example, Jaden Schwartz. He played in the SJHL (and USHL) before moving up, but there are lots.
I think the USHL and CJHL are about even.
