Hey guys!
OK, here's the situation. Our second-born is about to turn six months old and we want to get a solid baby photographer to do a session.
We used Canadian Baby photographer with the firstborn and it wasn't the best experience. Our online research has brought out a lot of the real 'artsy' type photographers who admonish 'don't get the baby to say cheese, I like to capture thoughtful introspection in the infant'.
Not our style - we want the big gummy smiles and cute poses with cute props.
Anyone have any advice?

I have 2 with a third on the way. We took ours to (of all places) Sears. Lots of props, different poses etc. The photographer was really into the whole thing which resulted in some interesting photos. Got some really nice shots. I was skeptical that we'd get decent looking photos but I was pleasantly surprised.

We did the Wal-Mart family photo. It turned out great. The kid was a bit older than 6 months, but I'd go back no problem. My mom used to take us to Sears for pics when we were younger. They got what they wanted.
The thing is photographers tend to think of themselves as artists and charge as such. And they're not completely wrong, there's some real skill involved with lighting and composition, but I'm with you. That 'thoughtful introspection' angle is crap, and they milk it by playing your heartstrings about spoiling memories or some other line. I wanna see a well-lit giant grin with the kid looking at me. A nice controlled environment in a studio where the lighting levels are consistent hardly needs a superstar photographer. They just need someone to get the kid to laugh or giggle and push click, monitor the camera a bit to make sure the exposure is proper. Enough people go to those guys they're gonna start charging like it's a wedding.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! We're looking at 'em. If they can do in-home that's a bonus. I'll report what we end up doing.
Thx again!
