As you all know, Nail Yakupov of the Sarnia Sting is the consensus #1 overall pick this year.
But looking ahead to 2013...it's hands-down going to be Nathan MacKinnon of the Halifax Mooseheads.
He is tied for fourth in QMJHL scoring right now with 49 points in 29 games. (19+30) He has been accounted on for 43.3% of the Mooseheads' goals this year. He tied a Mooseheads record for goals in a game today with 5, the first since Jason King put up 5 in 2001.
And he's doing this all....as a rookie.
He's all of about 16 and has all of the QMJHL, scouts, and citizens of Halifax - hell, the entire province of Nova Scotia, apologies to the fans of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles - talking.
Do you think he could be the next Crosby, as many have touted him to be?

Yes, and played at the same american private school that crosby did. I'm picturing some creepy laboratory in the basement of a lighthouse genetically engineering optimal hockey players. His hold-out with Baie-Comeau wasn't very classy though.

His hold-out with Baie-Comeau wasn't very classy though. He did so because he was not Francophone, according to Wikipedia. A valid reason if you ask me.

I thought this was because Baie-Comeau team sucked so much in the past few years and seemed to not be going anywhere (in fact, last year they were talking about possibly folding or relocating). This year seems different, though, so maybe he's doing what Lindros did with Quebec.

If he is, maybe Columbus should try drafting him and building a team around him! They will need all the firepower they can get to be competitive in our NEW division! And for the sake of spicing it all up and making our group of 8 teams THE MOST COMPETITIVE in the league! hehehehe! ;D

too bad he didn't get invited for team canada Sure will next year though. If #1 overall isn't MacKinnon in 2013 there will be throat punches to whoever's picking 1st overall (I'm looking at you, Mr. Garth Snow). And this is high praise since I'm a Wildcats fan
