I do not live in the states, so i am unsure how coverage in the much mainstream media hockey gets. However, my vote would go to Jim Rome. When I was in Calgary, i drove quite a bit for my main job through the city, and would listen to Rome's show religiously.
He is from southern California, and has season tickets to the Ducks games. What amazes me is how many times he goes out of his way to plug the game. He often interviews hockey players, and describes them as by far, his best interviews he has done. He also repeatedly tells his listeners that watching the game on TV does not do it justice, and to see the NHL live is amazing.
You would not expect that from a guy who has arguably the most popular sports radio show in North America. Ironically as much as he loves hockey, he hates soccer for some reason, calling it the most boring game on earth, and saying that enrolling his kids in soccer would be "child abuse." LOL. He cracks me up.

fellow Rome fan here and yes he does talk puck . he has had Don Cherry on many times. during the playoffs he is really on it. someone said his rating suck in the peg and i think it is because it takes time to get to know him and he has not been on that long. it is a very loud show and some of his sounders do hurt my hears ( like the quad YA on fridays ) and he will play stuff over and over like the roger clements is joining the yankees for example (oh my goodness gracechais ) give him a chance Winnipegers you will grow to love him

When did Winnipeg get Rome on radio? He has been on radio in Calgary for years. I never can remember what time his show is on, and what station here. i would have loved to hear his commentary on the Vancouver riots.

Rome's comments following Canada's gold medal victory at the 2010 olympics was awesome. I've been trying to find his post-gold medal comment forever and I have no luck! Do you know ehre I can find a video/transcript of those comments, or maybe you can say somewhat of what he said.

I think you can sign up on his website and listen to the audio but the links may be gone after 18 months. From what I remember he said that, being American, he wanted the US to win. He noted how 75% percent of the population of Canada watched some of that game and how the victory ment way more to Canadians than it would to Americans. I remember him saying how the Superbowl never gets that high a percentage of the country watching.

He is on afternoons on 1290 Sports radio in Winnipeg. I know that doesn't help you find an old show, but just fyi. You can listen live on the internet website for 1290.
