I posted this back on the ROTJ forum but I thought I would post it here as well since I didn't get alot of feedback on the old forum.
The title says it all, half of the Stanley Cup Finals since the begining of the "new" NHL in 2005 have featured a Canadian team, a trend the we haven't seen since the early 1990's. And now we have 7 financially flourishing Canadian teams, also a trend not seen since the glory years.
This all being said, can we officially proclaim the dead puck era, and the days of underachieving Canadian teams who were always being threatened to relocated over?
Have the days of the 1970's-early 1990's returned?

I hope so.
I think 7 teams will be a welcome breath of fresh air for the league. Profits will skyrocket. They just took an essentially dead team and made it into a profitable one overnight with one stroke of the pen in June.
Maybe once Bettman sees how the numbers jump in about every category, he might not be so anti-relocation and we could have even MORE glory years!

Have the days of the 1970's-early 1990's returned? I hope not completely--my Ducks were not so mighty in the early 90s, were we? But it IS true that hockey's really shaped up well post-lockout... I usually count the Lockout as the end of the Dead Puck Era, because that really marks the three big changes that have transformed the game since: -Revised rules to allow for more scoring and less 1-1 ties and, as a result, more of an interest in the game as a whole -Rivalries have taken off again, whether they be new and star-based (Pens-Caps/Crosby/Ovechkin), regional (Ducks-Sharks-Kings) or performance-based (Canucks-Blackhawks is one brewing, and Caps-Lightning comes to mind as well, and so on) -The Bettman Project has bottomed out, and so hockey's retaining the best of the New Era--Ducks, Sharks, Lightning, and the post-lockout rules--while jettisoning the failed experiments and reviving the old markets at the same time--Thrashers-for-Jets for starters, in all likelihood Coyotes-for-Nordiques is to follow, and then Preds/Panthers-for-Hamilton/Regina/Hartford/Seattle someday down the line isn't out of the question.

I WOULD point out, however... Canada's 0-3 with those teams so far. And to be honest...I'm sorry to say it, as I really do love your country and hope to visit it--and surely Winnipeg, it'd seem--someday, but... I was rooting agaisnt you all three times, gents. What can I say? The Oilers beat the Ducks in a BITTER Western Conference Finals... Then it was Senators VS. the Ducks, and so I naturally went with my boys there... And I was split on Canucks/Bruins to start--but after the hit on Horton, I pulled for Boston. ... And add to that I just hate the Canadiens naturally...I don't see them all that often, of course, but they're like the Yankees--in fact, the two are neck-and-neck for most championship wins by a franchise in North America--and I HATE the Yanks as a Mets fan...I hate the Red Wings for the same reason (and because they used to crush my poor Ducky hopes as a kid, until we got revenge and swept THEM out.) So needless to say, a Wings-Habs Stanley Cup would be a nightmare for me. But hey--get a team in there, and one I don't hate, and I'll pull for the Cup to come back to Canada! (Just don't ever put a team up against the Ducks ever again.)

Besides it's not just the success of the Canadian teams that makes the NHL so much better now, the change ups in the rules since then helped as well. I also like how so many teams have gone/are going back to retro inspired jerseys like the Capitals, Kings, Oilers, etc. Seeing Selanne get his ring didn't hurt either

The glory years will start when there are 8 Canada-based teams in the league again so of course I'm hoping Quebec City gets their team ASAP! After all Montreal last won in 1993 when there were 8, including the ORIGINAL Jets and the Nordiques hence why I said the thing I said!

(Just don't ever put a team up against the Ducks ever again.) No need to be sorry, I cheered against the Canadian teams too. I hate all the Canadian teams. Vancouver - Had Bure when I was a kid and Bure lit us up in 2 of the games I remember seeing live. Edmonton - Pretty obvious why. Calgary - Family from that area, can't have them thinking their good. Montreal - There is just a natural feeling to hate them, maybe I am anti-french or something? Ottawa - This is the one team I don't have any real hate for, luckily for me they have just been underachievers come playoffs. Toronto - As a kid all I wanted to see was the Jets, all I ever got to see was the Leafs. Still bothers me to this day. I have always been a believer that you stick to your team and when they are out your season is also done, but you can cheer against your rivals. Jets had rivals in these teams, and I still dislike them to this day. You don't jump on the bandwagon. I might cheer for a certain player on a team in the final, but not for a specific team...unless they are playing a canadian team.

I hate when people think just because a Canadian team is in the playoffs you have to cheer for them if you're Canadian.

Turns out I am just anti-french Mcquire4. Its like when you learn you are racist for the first time. I am kidding of course, I think it comes more from having to watch them when the jets were on because my Grandparents were big fans and they got the remote when they were on.
Then it turned more into the hate for the fans in montreal. i can remember there being a period there were refs and the league were against montreal cause they were french. It was during the separatists movements in the mid 90's. I just have issue with people throwing out the race card or something simular when they don't get their way. It wasn't a direct french hate on my part, it was more are you serious moment. I don't have anything against the team these days, i just refuse to cheer for them now.
