This is one team that it would be sad to see relocate, with their history and all. Still, business is business, I guess. How much would you like to bet Bettman said the same thing 15+ years ago about the Nordiques and Jets? With all due respect to you, sir, that attitude HAS to change if the NHL is to make the transformation we'd all like to see, and adopt a policy that's the opposite of the Bettman Doctrine: "If they're old, let 'em move or fold, If they're new, they stay or I'll sue!" We have to fight for those golden oldies instead--no matter which side of the Border they're on--and hope for the relocation of the "never should've beens." I agree and disagree. I certainly agree that it's places with absolutely no love of hockey that I'd like to see fold first (Phoenix, Florida, Columbus and some others on the bubble) but I can't quite give the Islanders a pass like that either. 5% of eligible voters is pretty frigging low, after Winnipeg had tens of thousands of people show up and donate millions of dollars of their own money (my $200 piggy bank included at the age of 9 at the time). I don't know, eventually something has to happen. The NY area has to show they really are home to hockey fans that start supporting the team again, or...
