Would they rename them the Brooklyn Islanders? Most likely. The New Jersey Nets will be renamed Brooklyn something. They may change the name Nets. Thanks for the info!

The only way this would work is if Wang sold the team to the arena owner. I don't think he's at all interested.
It's funny the Brooklyn Borough president suggested naming the team Brooklyn Islanders. Why would they change their name at all. NY Islanders would still be very appropriate since well Brooklyn is part of NY.
The Nets are completely different since they will be changing states.

It can work with Wang still owning the team. Other shared arenas have different team owners. All you have to work out is rent etc.

Bruce Ratner developer/part owner of the Nets and Barclays Center is in talks with the NHL. www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/27694626/31420743Back when the Air Canada Centre was being built it was originally going to be only for the NBA. Then the Maple Leafs joined up with the Raptors once construction was under way just like at Barclays Center. Air Canada Centre was redesigned during the contruction so hockey would work en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Canada_CentreThis makes too much sense not to happen. Wang wants to keep his big TV deal but has to leave to Coliseum. To leave the Coliseum he would have to build his own arena which wouldn't make business sense. No way does he get any public funding anywhere in this economy.

Interesting. Thanks for the article. Anyway thank God Minny is getting close to building a new (outdoor) stadium for the Vikes! About friggin time - time to compete with the Pack for the "coldest NFL field" title again! No problem. The new downtown LA stadium that was semi-approved yesterday has scared the hell out of Minnesota. They won't be competing with Green Bay for coldest field however. The stadium will be retractable roof. The govenor is making the team do this. He wants to hold other events like final 4's etc like they do at the Metrodome. Retractable is a good compromise for Wilf and the politicians! And for me its okay as long as ALL Vikings games are outdoors and open-air REGARDLESS of the temps which was the intention of Wilf in the first place and I don't think he'd drop that idea easily - hoping he doesn't. Plus I believe many people in Minny will want the team outdoors again considering they actually had a much better record when they did that (making it to the Super Bowl 4 times and ZERO since heading to the Dome)! So even though they have that retractable roof for all non-NFL events, they can still compete with Lambeau as the coldest due to the Vikings games being roofless and open air! They'd be stupid to not take back that late season winter weather advantage they once enjoyed now that the chance is there!

Well, as long as they stay in the NY area and the Coyotes move and Quebec gets a team...
I'll be pretty happy with my NHL )bonus points if they get a team back in Hartford to complete the Comeback Hat t/rick...plus, come on, Brass Bonanza is too awesome NOT to be heard in NHL games!)

Coyotes arent going to be moving for at least 3 more years. deal is almost done. as a matter of fact, the Jamison group has raised over 400 million and has submitted their plan to the NHL already. the next move belongs to GB. personally, i dont think 400 million will be enough to keep this team afloat, but hey..logic never was a factor here.

Quebec will eventually get a team but i don't think it will be next year. They are going to find a way to stay in Phoenix for a while yet i bet. Eventually they will fail but this will be way drawn out. Quebec's new building will be up for at least a few years like Winnipeg's was before they get the Coyotes is my guess. We should have known the NHL would find a way to stay in Phoenix. No way would any sports league leave a building that is 7 years old unless they absolutely had to. If this ever happened it would give anti arena activist the most ammo they ever had on why sports stadiums shouldn't be funded and Bettman wouldn't give up unless 100% forced to. Thats why the big push to stay. If they drag it out say another 6-7 years that would mean the building is in mid life when they leave. It would still make Glendale look stupid but not as stupid as having a team leave a building that is almost new. In the modern era of pro sports (since the 1990/2000's new stadium/arena wave) there have been 14 relocations in the 4 major pro sports. Only 2 of the teams that relocated played in modern buildings, the Atlanta Thrashers and Vancouver Grizzlies of the NBA. Both those buildings had another main tennant, The Atlanta Hawks and Vancouver Canucks. There has never been a relocation before from a new building in modern times by an only tennant like a Phoenix Coyotes for example. Personally i hope Phoenix does stay the 3 years then are forced to go to Quebec. That way Quebecor or whoever the owner would be would save money. It would be best that way. Even with sell out crowds the Colisee will be a money loser. Let someone else own the Coyotes the next 3 years and take the big loses in Phoenix, then then be forced to sell in 3 years. As far as Hartford i'm not at all optomistic. I've been doing some research on past Hartford attendance and its horrible unlike it was for Quebec or the old Jets. Theres too much other stuff to do in Connecticut like follow U-Conn etc. Plus theres a ton of Ranger and Bruin fans in Connecticut. Other than Phoenix i don't think there will be any relocation in the next 10 years. Columbus is squared away almost, the islanders should be squared away unless they blow it, and while Tampa, Florida, Carolina and Nashville aren't good markets i don't think they are bad enough to move or that Hartford would be any better. I do miss the Brass Bonanza(that was the greatest thing in any sport) but other than that i doubt Hartford is worth going back to anytime soon.

I do miss the Brass Bonanza(that was the greatest thing in any sport) but other than that i doubt Hartford is worth going back to anytime soon. Tampa and Carolina are "decent" markets, or at least decent enough...Nashville I'm sort of on the fence about, same with Columbus, both MIGHT work out, but I wouldn't shed a tear if they went, either way... But Florida just HAS to be removed somehow, it takes away from media and market shares that could be used to bolster the GOOD Florida team, Tampa, and really...no one CARES about the Panthers. I'd like to see the Coyotes move to Quebec to become the Nordiques within 5 years, and the Panthers to leave and become either the Whalers--if a similar ressurgance as has happened in WPG and WBC occurs, they're already re-growing the brand with their OHL "Connecticut Whale" team, which are sort of the HFD equivalent to the Moose, I suppose, a team to show they can be loud and proud while Southern teams falter--or, if Hartford is a lost cause, the #1 US NHL relocation spot everyone points out, Seattle. The Predators and Blue Jackets--bad names aside--I think I can live with, Nashville's shown a slwightly growing base and Columbus isn't a bad hockey destination, and Tampa and Carolina I'm fine with, both have won Cups and have enough fans and history and "identity players" to justify their existence. But the Florida Panthers have no such excuse, they must be put down... So I still say if Phoenix and Florida were exchanged for Quebec and Hartford/Seattle, I'd call the NHL "perfect" in its team displacement, or at least I'd be really, REALLY pleased with it.

At the Prudential Center, the Devils still don't get huge crowds but I believe the first few years there their gate revenue was $44M, $44M, and $38M. That puts them I believe 10th-15th in the League. I don't know about last year, although it is probably lower. I was at the Prudential Center last year and let me just say that you guys in New Jersey have a damn nice arena i was very impressed.
