I once heard a guy on a call in radio show say he hated the oilers with the intensity of a 1000 white hot suns.
It sums up how I still feel about the Oilers.
They are the enemy plain and simple.

If the divisional realignment occurs next year, I think Minnesota will become our biggest rivals. It would be nice to share a division with our old Smythe Division rivals, but it appears that will not happen.

Oilers. To answer this question, I asked myself the following question:
Beating which team in the playoffs would give you the most satisfaction?
Thinking about all those nights I spent as a little boy, listening to my AM-only walkman, under my sheets hoping my parents wouldn't figure out what I was doing after bedtime, hearing how the Jets were losing series after series against those bloody Oilers made this an easy question for me to answer.

If the divisional realignment occurs next year, I think Minnesota will become our biggest rivals. It would be nice to share a division with our old Smythe Division rivals, but it appears that will not happen. Negative, especially in lieu of the league being interested in ensuring that division-rivals in the future would be as close as possible to each other with regards to timezones (for TV purposes), and to equalize the travel distances throughout the league a bit more. Second, I'm sure the Wild owner will lobby somehow to ensure that the Jets are with us in the Central starting 2012 - he's on record stating how excited he is to see the likes of the Jets, Hawks and Blues with the Wild if/when the realignment pushes through and I'm with him on that issue... But to be realistic, I would say that the odds are higher for a Jets-Wild rivalry if the league becomes a 4-division league again which is why I'm hoping they go through with it! It was STUPID to separate two relatively nearby franchises serving very hockey-mad markets from each other back in the days of the North Stars-Jets 1.0. They should NOT repeat that! ;D

It would be nice to have a rivalry with a Canadian team, but I'd love a Jets/Wild rivalvry. Tons of tour groups head down to Minny for Vikings games and Wild games are usually included in the tour. It would be an amazing weekend if the Jets played down there on one of those weekends in the future. If the Coyotes somehow stay in Phoenix, there may not be a rivalry between the Jets/Coyotes but there will be one between the fans. I would like to see a Jets/Wild rivalry as well. I know the attention will be given more to the old-standing rivalries, at least at first. But since the Wild come from the closest American city to us, and we are likely to be in the same division after this year, I am curious to see how that play out. There are MANY Wild fans such as myself who want to see a (LONG OVERDUE) divisional rivalry with the Jets, our relatively nearby and fellow resurrected NHL market! And I believe Craig Leipold wants to see the Jets with the Wild in the Central starting 2012 as well based on what his recent interview on realignment says! Let's keep our fingers crossed that it works out that way!

For me I feel it's gonna be the Wild in the future, cities arent that far apart and the teams have a second crack at the NHL.
The Oilers and Flames of the 80's dont exist anymore,it was easy to get a hate on for them then.
But If the Jets happen to play a team a few years in a row in the playoffs, that will be the deciding factor.

"two relatively nearby franchises"
Winnipeg is by far the closest major league sports city to the Minnesota border, at only 1.5 hours, versus 3.5 hours to Milwaukee from Minnesota borders. Finally, a hockey team to cheer for after the loss of the North Stars! Glad to be able to follow the NHL again, it's been awhile...

I think it'll be Oilers and Coyotes, but personally, the biggest rivalries will be against my LEAST favourite teams: the Leafs and the Red Wings.

Hopefully Byfluglien will destory the Sedins and create a rivalry there like he did in the playoffs 2 years ago.

I think it will come down to playoffs. Regardless of who hates the Oilers, they likely aren't going to be divisional rivals after realignment. The Wild make sense because of geography, but they are not very good. Chicago could be interesting as a rivalry. Detroit is always in the playoffs, if we end up in the same division as them, animosity could build quickly.
The Oilers suck. I don't have a reason to hate them.

(Seriously...WHY do we need a drastic realignment the way Bettman predicts? You have a team in the Central division that's located in the Southeast of the United States and a team in Central Canada with rivals in Central Canada that's currently in the Southeast division...this seems like a pretty easy fix...) The realignment needs to happen for the betterment of the league. Especially in terms of television. Teams regularly facing opponents that are two or three time zones away hurts the value of the televisions contracts. It also makes convincing American fans to watch away games difficult.

Because of our past, the first Jets-Oilers game this season is an event.
