We've added a Facebook like button for each post next to the "report to mod" link. It keeps track of how many people liked the post and shares a link to the post on your Facebook wall.
Let me know what you think of this feature and if you have any issues with it. Thx.

I like the concept, but I would rather it was just confined to the forum. For example, X number of people like this post. I have no desire to share random posts on my Facebook wall.

I think if you have a like button you also need a dislike button. also agree with leaving it on the fourm.

I think if you have a like button you also need a dislike button. also agree with leaving it on the fourm. On some boards, I've seen a "reputation" feature that lets you "agree or disagree" with the post as well as leaving a comment. This takes the place of both the "like" button as well as the "exalt or smite" feature.

Although I don't disagree with the like button, I won't be using it. I limit what I put on my facebook as a teacher.

Let me explain the rational for the this. BTW, we can remove the button and replace it with something else (or nothing) at any time if that's the consensus or someone is strongly against it, but let me explain why I added it.
The purpose of the button quite simply is to spread news of this forum. It does this in two ways, assuming people use it occasionally:
1) It provides a link to a thread in this forum and this forum's name on a member's Facebook wall. People that visit a member's Facebook page can see the posting and click on the link to be redirected to this forum. In that way, new people will visit and learn about this forum.
2) Search engine optimization (SEO). One of the ways search engines like Google rank web pages is to take into account how many links there are on the web to each website. Every time someone adds a link to this forum on a different web page (in this case, Facebook) it will potentially increase the forum's ranking and position in any search results.
I'm not sure how 'big' we want this site to become or if this is even necessary, but this button can be removed at any time. It could be used as a temporary measure. This all relates to what we want this site to become -- bigger is not always better as they say. I do think we need to grow a bit still to ensure we are a viable site, but I would also add that if we ever get too big, it is possible to limit membership on this site also simply by changing a setting.
I look forward to any further feedback.

I should add: I don't expect everyone to use the button or to use it often. It is totally voluntary and it links to your own Facebook wall. If you don't want people you know on Facebook to know about this forum DO NOT USE THE BUTTON. However, there are a number of Facebook sites that are specifically 'Jets related.' It is at these sites/pages where I think we could pick up more traffic.

Following that line of thinking, I revise my stance. While I appreciate a smaller forum, I don't like the odds of a forum limited to a fraction ex-JetsOwner members.

^ Absolutely...only use it if you don't mind a link to this forum showing up on your facebook...If you'd rather not have ppl on facebook know that you post/visit this forum, don't include it...I should clarify: when you hit the button it adds a post with a link to a thread in this forum on your facebook wall and allows you to include a comment as well. Here is an example: Nhl Winnipeg Check this out. We've added a facebook like button to the forum. It's discussed in the link.
