We all know the tension of playoff hockey (hopefully).
We also know the intensity of rivalries.
So when these two combined for a Swedish Elite League playoff series between HV71 and Färjestad BK, one would expect some running of the goalies.
Late in the third period of Game 3, with HV71 up 3-2, a scoring chance led to a collision between an HV71 forward and FBK goalie Christopher Nihlstorp.
Nihlstorp was injured and did not return to the game (x-rays afterward revealed no fracture, so he MIGHT be good to go for Saturday's Game 4 in Karlstad).
In came Frederik Pettersson-Wentzel, a 5th round pick of the Thrashers/Jets franchise in 2010. It was his first ever Elitserien playoff game and it came unexpectedly.
FPW would play 22:01, and stood tall in goal, stopping 9 of 10. Unfortunately, the lone goal was Jesse Joensuu's game winner in overtime as HV got back in the series with a 4-3 OT win. Nevertheless, he played pretty damn well for a player with no playoff experience.
Now imagine the goaltending depth the Jets could have in the future: Pavelec, Mason (maybe), Pettersson-Wentzel, Pasquale, and Chris Carrozzi.
