Exactly! Both their captain and their MVP winning goalie are Canadian.... oh wait. I will give you the goalie, but I stand by my statement just look at history! Canadians get it done in the playoffs!!! Looking at the last 10 Conn Smyth winners, 6 are Canadian. So no, that's not a hugely disporportional amount to the overal percentage of Canadians in the league. Canadian players are not better simply cause they are Canadian. Xenophobia has no place on the Winnipeg Jets and they should fill the roles with the best available player regardless of nationality.

Also, keep in mind the Stanley Cup is over 100 years old. Aside from the odd exception, Europeans have only started filling roster spots over the last 20 years. So, yes, the original 80 years of NHL hockey was pure Canadian dominance; that has changed in recent years with guys like Thomas (American), Malkin (Russian), Lindstrom (Swedish), Zetterberg (Swedish) all having won the Conn Smyth. Of course, Canadians have also won recent Conn Smyth Trophies (Toews, Niedermayer, Ward, Richards).

Sorry, maybe I have to much Don Cherry in me but when playoffs come, Canadian boys step up there game, it is there life long dream the Stanly Cup, and I really feel it means more to them then the typical European player. Maybe ask the Sedin Brothers, I recall a few Canadian boys making them their bitch's in the finals. Guys with half there talent!

I also want to point out however, that Malkin was the FIRST RUSSIAN to ever win the Conne Smythe! I don't hate European Players, but honestly, don't fill up with Russians if you want to win in the playoffs.

Once you have one unhappy/miserable player on a team, it can start to drag other players with him. It's a poisonous thing in my mind and I don't feel he is worth the extra 20 goals. There has got to be a better solution than Kostiysyn I agree. Give the ice time to a young player and let him develope.

I agree Kostitsyn is a douche. I just think we need a 20 goal scorer really bad. I'd love for them to trade Bogo for Zajac. You know a homegrown boy like Zajac will play hard here.

I have no idea if Kostitsyn would be an asset to the Jets or not. What I do know is that sometimes a given player who may seem to underachieve in one environment will excel in a completely different one. For example, Tie Domi...came to the Jets in a "Goals for Goons" trade and ended up being a fairly respectable hockey player.

Marc Savard came to the Thrashers from the Flames in much the same manner.

Teams always take chances on disgruntle players if they have talent. The Jays are doing it with Yunel Escobar and Colby Rasmus which was cited in a great SI article this week. We can win all the Lady Bing trophies we want but if we want the holy grail, we're gonna have to take a chance on a player here and there. Look at the season Sergei Kostitsyn had in Nashville this year. He wouldn't normally be a Barry Trotz player but a new environment/team, netted positive results.
