Three down, 12 to go. Now that the best-of-five shenanigan with the worst-named hockey team in North America (other than the Blue Jackets, which has historical significance) is over, the tests begin against the best of the East Division.
My local boys, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, are going to be a test for the Caps. St. John's took the season series 2-1-1, winning both on the road by scores of 5-2 and 2-0, and losing at home 6-4 and 4-3 (OT).
As for the playoffs, the Baby Pens survived an epic five-game war with intrastate rival Hershey, scoring their two goals :07 apart in Game 5 en route to a 2-1 win. The goals went to Cal O'Reilly - a waiver pickup from the Coyotes - and checking line forward and fan favorite Zach Sill. Brad Theissen, despite inferior regular season stats to Scott Munroe, will get the call in goal as he did in the Hershey series.
We all know about the IceCaps getting all they could handle from Iiro Tarkki and the Syracuse Crunch and it taking OT in Game 4 to get past them, but they did nonetheless. Mark Scheifele, for the record, recorded an assist on Carl Klingberg's goal.
