Looking at these photos, it amazes me that True North even considered going with a different name for the team. There is such a rich history. These photos should be plastered all over the MTS Centre. I agree...there was SO much emotional investment in Winnipeg and Manitoba in the Jets moniker that it seems impossible to conceive of the 2.0 version being anything other than the Jets. That long proud tradition simply had to live on. I would imagine that the owners will embrace the 1.0 history all the more once the Phoenix situation is completely resolved. They would do well to put up some of these classic images as it just shows the long love affair that fans have had with the Winnipeg Jets! I don't think there is any waiting on the Coyotes situation. TNSE can plaster the walls of MTSC with classic Jets 1.0 photos whenever they want - it is a part of Winnipeg hockey history after all. I think they should begin to showcase the Jets rich heritage. It will give our current players a greater appreciation of playing as a Winnipeg Jet.

Anyone remember when Hull had his hairpiece torn off? He came back wearing this helmet. Yes..I was at the game. I remeber on one faceoff, he playfully slid the front of his helmet up to show some fans in the north end (where I ws sitting). I remember being quite disgusted and angry by what the opposing player did in pulling off his toupee in some fight. Can't remember the team we were playing though. Birmingham Bulls. Dirtiest team in the WHA. I think it was Steve Durbano. Who ended up in prison for drug trafficking after he retired.

I love the old scoreboard shot. But given the kind of brawls they had back then how could they only have room for two penalties per team? I remember back in the day when all ten players on the ice got sent to the box.
Of course my dad remembered when there was only one box for both teams (in the Original 6 NHL era). Guys given 5 minutes for fighting would just keep pounding each other in the shared penalty box.
Good times.
