I talked to Thomas Steen and he said all there numbers will be available to wear, they will honor the numbers but guys will still be aloud to were them, same as they do in Toronto. OK concept as long as some smuck doesn't degrade your number.

IMHO There should only be one number retired from Jets 1.0 and that's #10 He was a talent that was comparable to Gretzky in my opinion, except he had to carry the team on his back year after year. I would also like to see it retired in Winnipeg because Phoenix did such an awful job of it. I agree. In the 80s, Dale was our Gretzky. No question about that. His Jets stats speak for themselves (379 G, 550 A, 929 pts, 713 GP). Kudos to Bryan Little who voluntarily decided not to wear #10. Even if he did, it wouldn't bother me if he did wear 10.

Ya using #10 you better be prepared to fill some big shoes, then again #9 all you have to do is get drunk a bunch of times and slap a girl out named Sylvia!

I love Kane's confidence. He's going to stick with #9 and deal with the pressures of wearing it. He's thinking big for this year for himself “I was drafted to score goals — I know I’m a goal scorer,” and for the team “This team could be a top team in the conference." This kid just turned 20. Ladd may be the captain of our team but Kane needs to become the face.

Love that he is wearing numer 9 and I love that management is encouraging it. Key statement is that the team is about the future and not the past. Nobody is going to complain about honoring history when Kane puts up 30 plus goals with number 9 on his back. see when you say History thats a big word right there , we got a new franchise and its not the same team that left in 1996 that franchise lives out in Glendale and so do's the History and all the original Jets Players numbers hang in Jobing.com arena not the MTS Center people live on please .

I don't like it really. Bobby Hull's #9 was retired in Winnipeg by a team called the Winnipeg Jets. The new team should honour that since they decided to keep/take the same name. They have a duty to respect certain aspects of the original Winnipeg Jets' history in my opinion because they chose to use the same name. It's not like it would cost them anything...I realize some people will disagree. That's an opinion. sorry bro its not the same team name , True North named the team after the Air Force not the original team that left hear .

Statistical records of the original NHL Jets continued with the Phoenix franchise (not the WHA stats - the NHL doesn't recognize those thus remained here in the Peg). By no means do they OWN our 'history'. History dictates that the NHL Winnipeg Jets 1979-1996 happened in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Also, TNSE now owns the name, the identity -- which includes all original Jets logos and jersey designs. We just didn't inherit back the original NHL Jets statistical records. That is all. It doesn't prevent TNSE from honouring or showcasing our hockey history with the original Jets. I would also like to point out that the first incarnation of the NHL Winnipeg Jets ceased to exsist in 1996 thus becoming the Phoenix Coyotes.

I think we all know that's a bogus assertion, one that has already been debated many times. They are not legally the same franchise... but what hockey team name reminds you more of the Winnipeg Jets: 1) Phoenix Coyotes 2) Winnipeg Jets ... I think the answer is obvious

Who cares about legal entities...the history of the Jets belongs to Winnipeg not some abstraction...how TNSE decides to treat that is another matter...
I can tell you I was in PHX at Jobing.com Arena for Dale Hawerchuk's # retirement and hardly anyone knew who he was. The arena was half empty. And he was given polite applause. He deserves to be recognized in Winnipeg.

I propose that the next time anyone says that the Jets are in Phoenix be given a warning and then banned if they do that again. Consider that trolling and forum abuse.
