Curious as to what everyones thoughts are on the rule changes they looked at in the NHL R & D camp.
Here's the ones I can remember. Add if you know any that I missed
-Verification line inside the goal -Clear plastic rather than mesh on the top and corners of the goal -Shallower goals -HD cameras inside the net -Curved glass wrapping around by the benches to avoid a Chara type incident -Hybrid icing where rather than first touch after the red line whichever team reaches the face off circle first the linesman would call icing or call it off appropriately. -no changes on offsides (much like with icing currently) -No changes at any whistle, only on the fly changes -modified OT that goes from 4 on 4 to 3 on 3 after a certain time -modified rule along the end boards where defenders can bear hug the forward into the boards rather than having to chekc them
Which do you all like? Which do you hate?
I think the curved glass, verification line and HD camera are no brainers since they don't change anythign fundamentally about the game.
The icing thing I wouldn't mind
Hate the no changes and modified OT. Personally I hate the 4 on 4 stuff and shoot outs. I want it just a 5 min OT period 5 on 5 and that's it. Or no OT at all. Not sure what's wrong with ties.

Verification line makes sense. Clear plastic is fine as long as it holds up. Shallower goals...meh, not really a fan of that. HD cams...definitely Curved glass wrapping around by the benches is probably ok, but could make for interesting bounces. I think Hybrid icings puts too much in the hands of the linesmen. Just pick one and go with it. No changes on offside...meh No changes at any whistle is just plain dumb. 3 on 3 OT...probably better than having 25% of games decided by shootout. Bearhug rule...No
They also talked about no icing when shorthanded, which I kind of like. Also penalized player must serve the entire penalty. I'm undecided on this one.

Shootouts SUCK. 3 on 3, whatever, it'll be much better than a shootout. Bear hugs are no different than holding; guess we'll have to see how that plays out. No icing when shorthanded.... Don't like it at all.

I am definitely liking the verification line and the clear plastic. If the Hybrid Icing had something to make more exact and less in the linesmans hands then I would be for it too. I don't know how but its not the worst idea.
