i tried to talk about the Goldeyes before over at Grumpz's old jets forum. nobody wanted to talk about baseball ( and i totally understand that.) and the thread died. hope they do well, but in the end, i really dont care if they beat fargo or lose. go fish

the other issue i think why the Goldeyes dont get and play here is that the league they played previous to this one had what?...6 teams in it? teams come and go in A ball all the time. the only constants have been fargo and winnipeg. hopefully this circuit they are in can keep the teams they have and make the seasons meaningful.

The reason the Goldeyes get so little respect is because their league is relatively a joke.
Plus it isn't necessarily the most loved sport around these parts.

I've been to a couple Goldeye games and they're ok for some people, just not for me. And when you talk about "supporting local teams"... you're talking about spending money on local teams, not just giving your support. You really sound like you're a fanatic, which is great, but don't be rough on people for not sharing your enthusiasm. And this is primarily a Jets forum, not Goldeyes. Sure, the Bombers get some thread time on here, but they also have a bigger fanbase, bigger stadium, etc. And while you say security is better, the park is better, etc... keep in mind that the Shaw park security is patrolling 6k people, not 30k. I don't discriminate. I have never liked the Bombers either, I don't even like the CFL for that matter. If you want to make a Ra Ra Ra thread about the Goldeyes, super, just don't get your panties twisted when the thread dies after a dozen posts. Goldeye games are fine lot of bang for the buck and if the game sucks you don't get upset about walking out because it did not cost you much. I'm not much of a baseball fan but I do go from time to time.

I'm not a baseball fan, but I like the atmosphere at Goldeye games. The concessions are excellent as well. I wish them well.

It's always bothered me our beloved Winnipeg GOLDEYES do not get the respect they deserve from the Winnipeg media and Manitoba sports fans. I could point out the franchise is superior to the Blue Bombers in, oh, about 50 different ways (ownership, facility, concessions (the food & beer selection at Shaw Park is awesome), security, fans, gameday experience, value for your money, etc. etc.), and how it is the best baseball in Canada you will see outside Toronto (major league scouts frequently attend games). Sure, the Championship drought is laughable. But other than that, I can't think of 1 good reason to knock the franchise. (oh, unless you're one of those "I hate the mayor so much! I will not support anything he has anything to do with!!! Grrr!" clowns) - "Oh, baseball is boring". On tv and the radio, you bet your ass. Notsomuch in person. - "It's practically beer-league baseball". Uh, not quite. Like I said, best baseball in Canada outside of Toronto and some of the Goldeyes have even made it to the majors. They're currently in the playoffs, facing their rivals, the Fargo Redhawks. My question to you guys is: What's stopping you from respecting this team more? Wow, Is Slippy also known as Blackthorne/Commander? Those that were on JO would know, same posting style, same hatred of the Bombers, love of Goldeyes Slippy, you have been outed!!!!

The reason the Goldeyes get so little respect is because their league is relatively a joke. Plus it isn't necessarily the most loved sport around these parts. I'm sorry but that's nonsense . The Goldeyes play in the biggest independent baseball league in North America(American Association). 13 teams ( they play interlocking with the Can-am league) They have the highest independent attendance of the 40 or so teams, (Approx 300,000 per season) Plus they outdraw 80% of organized minor league baseball teams. As for the "previous" league the Northern League had a long and proud tradition but when the American Association was formed a number of Northern league teams left because the geography and travel was better for them. The Northern league tried to adapt adding teams including Calgary and Edmonton but after losing Triple A teams there wasn't much enthusiasm for independent baseball plus the travel costs. After the 2010 season with no assurances the Northern league would grown The Goldeyes, Fargo, Gary and Kansas City joined the American Association as well. A number of Goldeye players went on to the majors including that made MLB all star teams. Just because you or anyone has no interest in the Goldeyes does make them a joke,

Since the 1990's, the Blue Bomber have embarrassed Winnipeg, and Manitoba, with their various on-and- OFF-the-field screw-ups and failures. Can't think of a time the Goldeyes have done that. Maybe from 1994-98 when we had, arguably, the worst-ever minor league ballpark at the then-named Winnipeg Stadium. Anyone ever attend a ballgame there?

The one that stands out was a 13 or 14 inning playoff game on a very cool Septmenber evening seated in the West side stands where you needed to sit sideways to see homeplate. My back hurt for the next few days. Moving to Shaw Park was like going from a shack to a mansion. Slippy you don't like when anyone disses the Goldeyes and nether do I but if you diss the Bombers is that any better? I love all the Local teams, all have some flaws but I support the Bombers, Jets and Goldeyes with reservation, That doesn't mean I won't criticise them when it's deserved.
