It's always bothered me our beloved Winnipeg GOLDEYES do not get the respect they deserve from the Winnipeg media and Manitoba sports fans. I could point out the franchise is superior to the Blue Bombers in, oh, about 50 different ways (ownership, facility, concessions (the food & beer selection at Shaw Park is awesome), security, fans, gameday experience, value for your money, etc. etc.), and how it is the best baseball in Canada you will see outside Toronto (major league scouts frequently attend games). Sure, the Championship drought is laughable. But other than that, I can't think of 1 good reason to knock the franchise. (oh, unless you're one of those "I hate the mayor so much! I will not support anything he has anything to do with!!! Grrr!" clowns) - "Oh, baseball is boring". On tv and the radio, you bet your ass. Notsomuch in person. - "It's practically beer-league baseball". Uh, not quite. Like I said, best baseball in Canada outside of Toronto and some of the Goldeyes have even made it to the majors. They're currently in the playoffs, facing their rivals, the Fargo Redhawks. My question to you guys is: What's stopping you from respecting this team more?

^ I'm a Jays fan, and I don't get Goldeyes games in Ontario. When was the last time the Goldeyes won anything slippy, that seems to be stopping you from respecting other teams that have been based in Winnipeg?

I don't even understand that sentence.
Anyways, since you don't even live in the province of Manitoba, the thread doesn't really apply to you.

Why not? I've cheered for every other team based in Winnipeg.

Goldeyes are the highest drawing independent minor league team and outdraw even some AAA teams.

I'm a huge Goldeyes fan, Big win in Fargo tonight, the Goldeyes provide a great product from competitive teams almost every year, great giveaways, fireworks and cheap tickets in an fantastic ballpark(lots of concessions & no bad seats). Go Goldeyes and bring us home a championship its been too long (1994)

^ This. THIS is what I'd like to hear more from Winnipegger's!
Speaking of "Great Giveaways", some games I've attended I've got so much free stuff, it's more than paid for the price of my ticket!

So the root of Slippy's hate for the bombers has finally come to light. You are just upset that the people of winnipeg support the bombers over the godleyes and you make yourself feel better by bashing the bombers. Its ok slippy, you can love the goldeyes, but not everyone is a baseball fan.

When the ticket cots under $15.00, that isnt saying all that much. When I go to a Jets game and get enough free crap that it pays for my ticket, then there would be something worth bragging about.

I've never heard the Goldeyes get any disrespect from the Winnipeg Media or Manitoba sports fans. They just aren't at the forefront of our minds because Winnipeg's not a huge baseball market.
Winnipeg is to baseball as Glendale is to hockey. The difference is that we have an appropriately sized facility housing a team from an appropriate league and aren't pretending we're a major-league baseball city.
But now that you've put the idea into my head, I think I'll look into taking my family to a game. Four tickets for $20? Yowza!

I've been to a couple Goldeye games and they're ok for some people, just not for me.
And when you talk about "supporting local teams"... you're talking about spending money on local teams, not just giving your support. You really sound like you're a fanatic, which is great, but don't be rough on people for not sharing your enthusiasm. And this is primarily a Jets forum, not Goldeyes. Sure, the Bombers get some thread time on here, but they also have a bigger fanbase, bigger stadium, etc. And while you say security is better, the park is better, etc... keep in mind that the Shaw park security is patrolling 6k people, not 30k.
I don't discriminate. I have never liked the Bombers either, I don't even like the CFL for that matter.
If you want to make a Ra Ra Ra thread about the Goldeyes, super, just don't get your panties twisted when the thread dies after a dozen posts.
