Hey!
OK, with my first-born having turned three this past July, I figure it's time for me to start thinking about getting him skating and such. What's the usual path for kids to get into hockey? What ages do they start playing at? I'm guessing there must be some kind of 'learn to skate' program. Any advice?
I never really had a chance to be serious about hockey (my parents were old-school) and I want to make sure that my little guys have every opportunity. I know some of you have been there before. Care to share your wisdom?

I believe the TimBits progams start at age 4. I would suggest getting in contact with your community club. My daughter just turned 2 and we're gonna get her her first pair of skates for xmas. Also gonna try and find one of those push thingies to help her stay up. Should be interesting.

My 4 year old (just turned 4 this month) had started skating at "public skating" with me when he was 2. He's also been taking skating through the leisure guide all of last year, and we are going to try to get him started in Timbits this year (I believe the registration is Sept 1). He loves hockey, and keeps asking me when he is allowed to play on a team.

The leisure guide will have learn to skates at the city rinks out in our area. Just go on line. My little guy did that at the civic center at 4 then played last season at 5. Send me a PM if you have any questions!!

Thanks guys! That was just what I was looking for.
Wow, what a year. 2nd born son arrived in February, new majority government, new NHL team, team gets named Jets, I score season tickets, Bombers are leading the league, I'm hitting Phoenix for the Old Jets vs New Jets, I'm on pace to get my Master Scuba Diver certification... and now I get to teach my first-born to skate.
Heck, I'm calling it. Bombers win the Grey Cup and Jets win the Stanley Cup. That's the only way things can happen from here on in.
Go Jets Go!

Both my sons were on skate by 2, oldest started playing hockey at 4 youngest started at 3. Back yard rink is were its at, I had a very small back yard but always had a rink for the first five years. you had to learn how to stop very young or smash threw the fence. City of Winnipeg also have the skating classes for young kids, pretty cheep not the best instructors but they get you skating. Kerry Wilson has or had a good program for young kids and I would definitely recommend him, they skate and have fun so he is on the right track. But best thing for real young is back yard rink so you can control the ice conditions.
