I have been in SLC a few times. It will, in my opinion, embrace the Coyotes with both arms. Its a young dynamic town. Has amazing scenery, skiing and geology in Utah. It does have 4 seasons. Summers can be blazing hot but hey they're coming from AZ. If they move that is. The NHL could do a lot worse. If they go with a new owner I wonder what the Transfer Fee will be? Go Utah Go! Cheers to Salt Lake City! 2b9πππ

Sources: Coyotes players told team is relocating to UtahArizona Coyotes players were informed Friday that the team is relocating to Utah, sources told ESPN, confirming a report by PHNX Sports. Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong met with the players ahead of their game against the Edmonton Oilers to confirm what had been rumored all week: t hat the NHL is working to facilitate a sale to Ryan and Ashley Smith, owners of the Utah Jazz. The Coyotes will begin playing there next season. The NHL and Smith's group have been working on a deal, but sources told ESPN on Friday night that nothing was done yet, and there was plenty of work to do before the deal was finalized. An announcement is expected next week, at the conclusion of the NHL regular season, sources told ESPN. Coyotes players and staff members will be invited to visit Salt Lake City after their season finale to check out the city and facilities.Coyotes players were not available following Friday night's 3-2 overtime win over Edmonton and coach Andre Tourigny said he would only take questions about the game. "This team has been through a lot of adversity," Tourigny said. "The first time the rumor came around, we didn't manage it well and we shoot ourselves in the foot, went on a 14-game losing streak. Our guys are showing how proud they are, how much they care for each other and how much they want to have success with each other. It's cool to feel that, cool to see them cheering each other and pushing in the same direction like that." T he plan is for the team to play at the Delta Center, which is owned by Smith and is also home to the NBA's Jazz. However, sources told ESPN that the NHL has made clear to the Smiths that a hockey-specific upgrade is needed at the Delta Center in order to become the team's permanent home.
Smith already has government support. A bill was passed in the Utah State Senate to help fund a renovated entertainment district downtown in anticipation of an NHL franchise. The bill already has approval from Utah Gov. Spencer Cox.Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo has been on a years-long quest to find a permanent home for his club, which has been temporarily playing its home games at Arizona State's Mullett Arena. Meruelo has eyed a plot in the Phoenix area and intends to win a state-run land auction for it on June 27. However, according to sources, the NHL grew skeptical of the timeline and decided it needed a better solution for next season. T he NHL is interested in returning to Arizona in the future and will leave the door open to Meruelo to own the team. www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/39931044/arizona-coyotes-players-informed-team-relocation-utah

I think this article is a mistake. It would be almost impossible to renovate the current arena to NHL standards. I think the plan is a new arena. The current one was built in 1991 and is considered almost outdated by NBA standards.
The guys of HF boards said Meruelo will be given benchmarks he must meet/timeline for stuff. The talk was shooting for expansion in 10 years. They think he's a joke and won't be able to meet any of the benchmarks. They talked how Bettman meet with the Phoenix Suns owner. That would be shooting for a team in 10-15 years with a shared suns/NHL arena. The current arena got public $$$ for renovation a few years ago so they can't justify a new arena for at least 10 years.
The NHL really should do it right with a shared downtown arena in 10-15 years then taking Meruelo's remote(ish) arena plan.

Bettman should resign. Plain and simple. The current owner in AZ destroyed any chance of staying by not paying the bills.
Good luck to salt lake. It has winter and is fairly affluent. I think something like a college hockey program could also assist helping grow the sport.

Utah and the SLC area has had a fair exposure to hockey over the years. Some of it as part of pro team's farm clubs as well junior clubs over the years. Here is a list and if you click on the club you get some more info. It's not a hockey wasteland. www.hockeydb.com/stte/salt-lake-city-moose-11136.html

I just read an article on Sportico, an Arena will be built in downtown Salt Lake City, the current Arena that they will play in will obviously be temporary. Cheers, 2b9πππ

Now that Coyotes are moving to Utah I need the NHL to return the Jets 1.0 records to Winnipeg.

It won't happen, I read in the NY times a while ago Chipman wanted that and that idiot Bettman wouldn't do it. They should have done it this year as a PR boost with the Jets attendance trouble.

I think something like a college hockey program could also assist helping grow the sport. He's not resigning. Overall he did get the NHL the TV deal they were seeking in the US($1B up from the former $200M) Salt Lake City will be ok but nothing great. It's got 2.8M people, growing fast but it would have been much better if this had been Houston.

This failure is the fault of Bettman and his impulsiveness. I get growing the game and many sunbelts have worked but you got to do it right. In the case of Phoenix Mistake 1 was playing at the Suns arena that was a horseshoe and not built for hockey Mistake 2 was going to Glendale which was way way away from the majority of population and $$$$. Mistake 3 would be coming back to the arena in the area the current owner wants to build it. The other mistakes were having nothing but jokes for owners. You need someone like the suns owner in a downtown Phoenix arena otherwise forget it.
