Chris Daniels @chrisdaniels5 BREAKING: Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn acknowledges recent discussions with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman Chris Daniels @chrisdaniels5 BREAKING: McGinn says a Hansen rep introduced him to potential Seattle NHL investors two weeks ago. Chris Daniels @chrisdaniels5 BREAKING: NHL investors also met with Seattle City Council members. Chris Daniels @chrisdaniels5 BREAKING: McGinn “We believe we can support the NHL in Key Arena”. Chris Daniels @chrisdaniels5 NOW: I can also now confirm Lanza and Bartoszek are the two investors interested in bringing Coyotes to Seattle. #NHL
peter26, sorry it's no longer a rumor when we have names, date, price tag, confirmed by multiples sources and almost all hockey journalists
NHL = double standard
Quebec : you can't get a team without a new arena, you can't get a team if the new arena is not under construction (a project is a project until the construction start *Bettman*) Seattle : we don't care.
and now how do you bet that Bettman won't ask Seattle to buy 13 000 seasons ticket to get the approbation from the BOG ? lol

The double standard is ridiculous. He's the same SOB he was when Quebec and Winnipeg had teams moved.

^ Hard to believe yes, but it wouldn't surprise me. The NHL wants to market to Americans because they know Canadians will watch the game anyways. Small French Canadian market compared to medium sized American market, easier to sell Seattle to Americans than Quebec. Seattle right now, is just as bad a merket as Glendale, but it still wouldn't surprise me if the NHL took a chance on the city anyways. Sorry Quebec fans.

Here is what I think the NHL plan is, just my view. They want the league to be 32 teams some day. They need teams in the West. So they would like the team to stay in Phoenix, if not to Seattle. I believe relocation is the option for Seattle, they want a team that can compete right from the start. They learned a lesson with Columbus, which has a hockey market but was tiring of a expansion team always losing. American fans don't have the same patience to wait for a wining team like they do in Canada. Quebec will get the first expansion team for two reasons. They are willing to pay and can handle losing seasons with out the fans turning on the team. Same goes for a second franchise in Ontario. Yeah that's one way to see things. The other way is that Bettman needs another bidder in order to extract the most amount of money from PKP as possible. Otherwise PKP will say "I'm not paying one penny more than Winnipeg, and if you don't like it then keep playing in Glendale without subsidies!" So Bettman calls up two investors that tried to buy a portion of the Mets, and he says, "Hey guys, can you do me a solid? I need another bidder in this Coyotes fiasco. Help me out and I'll help you out down the road." Then Bettman calls his media leak guys and next thing you know PKP is starting to have a change of tune. - And Peter26, believe me the majority of Jets fans support the Nordiques fans. I'm excited about the possibility of a Seattle team in my neck of the woods, but there is NO WAY that should happen before Quebec (actually, I think Hamilton should get a team first too).

I wonder if they would go with the name metropolitans.
And i do wonder if this is an attempt at a bidding war.

It's not over until it's over. A relocation to Seattle is preferable to the status quo. I have a feeling PKP wasn't willing to cave to the NHL's asking price and they are creating a bidding war. PKP probably wants to pay $170 million or around what TNSE is reported to have paid.

Seattle Metropolitans is the only name i think should be used. Actually has history.
But guys i agree, pkp may be getting squeezed. notice the seattle price is 220 not 230 which is what was rumored to be required.
