Yeah, this looks just weird. The only good thing: This will make the MTS Centre look bigger.

Relax guys. It's fine. Beats moving out of New York or continuing at Nassau. This is no surprise. We knew it would look that way months ago. It's basically 3/4ths of an arena. It will have 15,000 to 15,500 seats(according to what Bettman and Wang said in October) so it may still beat MTS capacity wise plus 104 luxury boxes as long as the ones on the left side can be used. If not it will still have 80 plus boxes. As long as Islander fans actually exist and they buy the luxury boxes and 15,000 to 15,500 good seats they will be fine weird set up and all. New York times thought with the increased luxury boxes/club seats the Islanders would bring in $35 more million dollars per year.

my theory on what they will do with the empty side is create some seats plus a pavilion for a bar restaurant luxury suite. they will get it over 15000 by doing some renovations on allowing certain seats to adjust the angle for hockey

the seat angles are easy fixes. what to do with the dead space behind is easy (luxary up close bar)
they will get over 15,000 in that horseshoe

Hey check it out. The Barclays Center web site has a seating chart with virtual views if you click on certain seating sections. Check out the limited view seats on the left hand side. A few a them are semi-decent and have only partial obstruction, a good chunk are downright awful and you can't see the left hand goal. nyislanders.io-media.com/#Barclays center seats 17,732 for NBA and at last check they list the capacity for hockey at 15,795. Originally they made it sound like it would be 15,795 non obstructed seats but that is the total seats. The rumor is there are 4,000 obstructed seats. Barclays people have been very coy on this. Still overall the Islanders did the right thing moving here. Anything is better than Nassau Coliseum. Plus they get a guaranteed payment from the Barclays people for playing here and the Islanders did sell for 485M dollars. But man is Charles Wang an idiot for not partnering with Barclays sooner and building a true NBA/NHL arena.
