Hearing some things about renovations. Coolest sounding one is near the Eatons statue will be a licensed area for all levels of ticket holders and a new Jets store. More washrooms (not sure if 100s or 300s). Renos to the main Jets store and adding 3 more.

"We also remain deeply committed to a long term plan of constant evolution and improvement to your fan experience in the MTS Centre. Over the next 7 years, as a Jets season ticket holder, you will be witness to a multimillion dollar upgrade program - Full HD scoreclock addition; new washrooms; 100 and 300 level food, beverage and concession improvements and additions; a new climate controlled vestibule at Portage and Donald; main retail store expansion; a new atrium level retail store; freshening of the fit and finish of all building concourses - the list is long."

"a new climate controlled vestibule at Portage and Donald". Guess that's what I hear about, sound intriguing.
And agreed, a new scoreboard will be awesome!

Not really a renovation but I do like that you can now go out into the atrium without having to be scanned in and out. Hopefully lots will use it and will ease congestion, now if they could put some bathrooms out there too!!

Isnt the atrium in question, the main entrance? And isnt that already climate controlled?
When does the new scoreclock go in? Ours is very small and ofcourse, not HD.

Is there still any talk of possible future capacity expansion?

Is there still any talk of possible future capacity expansion? There is always talk of expansion in here. From all reports it is not financially feasible to add new seating to MTS Centre. It would cost more to add the seats; the seats will be the lowest price seats; the ROI would be too long. I'll keep MTS Centre, warts and all, for now rather than try to shoehorn in a few extra seats that I believe few people will enjoy.

There is always talk of expansion in here. Not been very active over the last year, and didn't want to search It would cost more to add the seats; the seats will be the lowest price seats; the ROI would be too long. Makes sense, so the question really is dead for now... I'll keep MTS Centre, warts and all, for now rather than try to shoehorn in a few extra seats that I believe few people will enjoy. I like the intimacy of the hangar, but there are times that I wish it was far more visually overwhelming and intimidating - on screen anyway. Although I think it has a lot to do with the lighting - if they would just focus all the light on the rink and have a quick fade to dark around the periphery it would certainly help. Thanks for the reply.

Is there still any talk of possible future capacity expansion? That's been the one area that TN has been unequivocal about. No chance of expansion. Zero. TN is an organization skilled in the art of the nuanced 'non-denial-denial'. They honed that craft for years with non-denial-denials concerning the ROTJ. So when Scott Brown phrases it like this: While True North spokesman Scott Brown said Tuesday it might not be impossible to expand the seating capacity, it’s “absolutely not” in the company’s plans — at least not in any significant way.www.winnipegsun.com/2011/06/07/no-plans-to-expland-mts-centrewe should take it at face value. m.

Well it makes sense - keeping demand high et al., and as Biff pointed out they'd all be cheaper seats. Long may it be sold out! Anyway - didn't mean to hijack this thread with another expansion one... please carry on with the planned renos. :-)

What are everyone's opinions on the 6-year plans to renovate the MTS Centre? Do you think the Jets are doing enough to rid of the "minor-league" venue label or not doing enough?

I'm not familiar with the '6 year' plan so I can't comment.
I've noted elsewhere that they're working the upper deck heavily while doing little for the lower bowl. I'd rather see some comprehensive work done.

Space limits what they can do. Sounds as if they're spending quite a bit to do as much as possible to improve the arena. So who other then you is calling MTS Centre minor league? Would you rather be in Glendale with a nicer arena and no fans? I'm unassuming this thread will lead to a build a new arena call which isn't happening in thew next 20 years or more.

The upper deck not only needs more work than the lower bowl but also simply has more potential for expansion, which is what they're doing. So I'm good with the renovations they are doing, though I'd still vote to just have a voucher for 10 free beers per season and they can keep their tens of millions they're spending on renovations.
As far as the MTS Center being minor league - it is. It's good enough but I don't think many people would pretend to believe that it's not one of the worst arenas in the NHL. Most people don't really care though, all that matters is it's good enough. I do hope the next arena is built with more luxury, but I think we should keep the MTS Centre for as long as it makes sense to.
