(Mods, feel free to move this if need be. No clue where to put it)

Last night I decided to head down to the Wells Fargo Center to see the 2nd annual Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff between the Vermont Catamounts and Penn State Nittany Lions. Myself planning on attending UVM, I was pulling for the green and gold. And it was a very fun game.
Penn State opened up a 1-0 lead in the first on a controversial goal by Taylor Holstrom (Jr, undrafted). It was ruled in after the refs concluded that the net was not knocked off by a Catamount defender before the puck went in. They doubled it later when, with Holstrom in the box, the Nittany Lions went on a two-on-one rush. First shot by Ricky DeRosa (Fr.) went through Mike Santaguida's (Fr.) five-hole, right out to a wide open Tommy Olczyk (Jr.), who banged it home. 2-0 Penn State, and yes, Tommy is Eddie's kid.
After that it was all Catamounts.
The lead was cut to 2-1 by the end of the period thanks to an absolute LASERBEAM by Jake Fallon (Jr.) that beat Eamon McAdam (Fr.), a New York Islanders draft pick, despite McAdam getting a piece of it.
Midway through the second, the Nittany Lions had just killed off a 5 minute major (and 1:33 of 5 on 3 play). Right after that expired, Nick Luukko (Jr.), a Flyers prospect, sent a knuckler through traffic that went five hole on McAdam. Not sure if it hit a PSU defender in front, but it tied the game up. 2 minutes and 59 seconds later the Catamounts took the lead for good on a weird goal. Rob Polesello (Soph.) shot it in off the end boards and it trickled up into the crease. McAdam lost it in his feet and Matt White pounded home the 3rd - and game winning goal.
After that the Catamounts went into a defensive shell but added two more. First one was an absolutely amazing shorthanded individual effort by Brendan Bradley (Fr.). Bradley made a nice move to undress Mark Yanis (Soph.) and then was all alone in front of McAdam. First shot save, second shot goal. The second was a tip on the power play. Mario Puskarich (Fr.), who last year led the BCHL in scoring (and earlier in the game was hit in the head, drawing a 5 minute major), set up in the corner, and sent the puck back to defenseman Rob Hamilton (Fr.). He ripped one that was heading wide but Pete Mazzar (Sr.) tipped it home for the 5-2 lead, which was the final score. Game ended four on four after Vancouver prospect Mike Williamson took a 5 minute major, killing any microscopic chance Penn State had of coming back.
There was lots of physicality and big hits, including 2 five minute majors on the PSU side. Goaltending was good on the Vermont side with Mike Santaguida (who went undrafted) making 31 saves, including some very nice ones. For Penn State, in my opinion, Eamom McAdam cost them the game, with a shoddy 24 saves on 29 shots, and the game winning goal had NO business going in. The Nittany Lions had a nice desperation effort in the third with 23 shots after registering just one in the second.
Overall, this being my first NCAA game LIVE (I've seen many games on TV), it was a great, enjoyable experience. It was mostly Penn State fans, but there was a nice showing of people wearing the green and gold of the Catamounts. College hockey is great entertainment and great value. If the opportunity ever arises for you to see a game, go check it out!
