Usually I'm not one to criticize. But this snow clearing thing is ridiculous. And shame on the Free Press for doing damage control for the City.
Let's go through the lies.
- The city didn't clear the snow from the first storm near the end of December because there was a second storm coming.
That's a lie. They didn't clear the snow because it was the new of the year and they had no money. How do we know this? If the above was true they would have waited for the second storm before they began clearing. They began snow removal on, you guessed it, January 1st. The blizzard was two days later.
- the city was waiting for the second storm to maximize efficiency.
We already know they waited due to budget concerns. In fact they don't care at all about maximizing efficiency. How do we know this? They were out clearing and scraping hours before the jan 3rd blizzard. In fact, they cleared and scraped my neighbourhood the night of Jan 2 when it was already snowing. They even cleared the side walk that night. Hours before it would all be under several feet of snow.
- the city isn't at fault. The reason for the snow issues was the fault of Mother Nature who dropped 30 cm of snow between two storms and flash freezing.
Nice story. But the reason there was 30 cm of snow to clear was because the city didn't bother clearing it after the first storm. The reason the rapid drop on temperature was such a problem was because the snow and ice was allowed to harden over several days rather then being cleared in the first place.
And one final note. I often use Brady Rd. And Brady often suffers very large snow drifts. I actually drove it during the blizzard (very deep snow). I drove it this morning and it has about two feet of snow across the road for a long stretch. On my way him this evening the snow has hardened and two large 4X4 trucks got stuck. My Jeep also got stuck. It took digging and a tow rope to get us out.
I reported it to the city as an impassable road. They said they would look into it within two business days and if warranted would clear it within NINE business days. That's maximizing efficiency at City Hall.
