I was in the stadium a few years back and they were showing a new stadium on the jumbotron. Talked about it being built. My dad said to me why do they need a new stadium. I said I didn't know. Maybe the deal fell through or something? Or maybe it was the reno they were talking about. But that was years ago. At least 5 years. yea they wanted one....they didnt get it but they got a renovation and essentially are paying the dolphins for all events at it

The stadium they wanted looked fricken' amazing! Maybe it went sour when the Marlins owner fleeced the city.

There was NEVER talk of a new stadium. The plan was always renovation but they had years of political fighting over who would pay for what. Reason they wanted the renovation was $$$ plus the Colts vs. Bears super bowl was a disaster. They had a monsoon and all the high rollers who came to the game got angry. A roof covering the stands is part of the renovation. NFL threatened that without a renovation the Super Bowl wouldn't come back to South Florida. Other reason for the renovation was this was where the Marlins used to play. As a result to make room for the playing field the stadium didn't have enough seats in the lower bowl and way too many seats in the upper bowl that were cheap or didn't sell. With the renovation they added a lot more lower bowl seats and removed major portions of the upper deck.
