Death of Tony Gwynn has brought this up.
Its about time they do. Its gross, hasnt translated to HD well at all...stupid tradition.

Meh. There's bigger fish to fry in MLB. These guys are grown ups, if they want to chew, let 'em.

Yes, it sets a bad example for kids and it's gross with crew all over the field. Who wants to make a sliding catch in someone elses chew. Ewwww....

tony gwynn was the last straw for me. Dip and chew are really bad...thing is its not like cigs where people are usually smokers or not with no in between.
its something people can do off and on, though a bunch get addicted because its a sports culure thing.
hockey player dip...its common but they dont doit on the ice

Me too. Tony Gwynn was a very nice person. I got his autograph outside Wrigley Field in 94 weeks before the strike. All the other players walked by the fans like the didn't exist, Gwynn stopped for like 20 minutes on a sweltering day(while wearing a suit) and signed and talked with people. He was probably the nicest person in the history of any sport. Look at all the money he turned down too so he could stay loyal to the Padres.
