Still the "East Coast" league.... They officially changed their name from the "east coast hockey league" to the ECHL circa 2002. So technically the EC no longer stands for anything.

I wouldn't really comment on how legit this makes the league. Its the guy not good enough to play in the AHL let alone the NHL. I couldn't be surprised if the OHL guys make more than ECHL lol.

The league is not currently legitimate but when it becomes true 1:1 promotion and if the rumors of LA and San Jose picking up ECHL franchises, promoting them to AHL and demoting the sharks and monarchs? yup that makes it legit.
What i hope happens if they do drop Worcester and Manchester is that the bruins start an ECHL AA bruins franchise in my region. Id love to see lowell get another shot at minor league hockey. The Lockmonsters were popular until they chnaged the name to the devils...new englanders dont root for new jersey farm teams. Not to mention Lowell was selling out their D1 hockey games last year. I couldnt get a ticket all year to see the riverhawks

I dont see Juniors as a reasonable place to send 19 year old draft picks. The echl would be parfect if formatted properly.

Why would the Kings and Sharks demote their current farm teams why not just move them? Juniors is there to help get players ready to go pro. The NHL and AHL are for players already at the professional level. So it works, it helps further develop the players so they can thrive in the NHL. Personally I'm more interested in the Ice Caps moving to Thunder Bay and Winnipeg getting a WHL team. And of course the Jets winning the Cup lol.

This is a typical canadian reaction not understanding why a AA is neded after juniors ...gives teams a spot to drop players and keep them in the system rather than send them back to juniors to coaches they dont control. And Im not making up the manchester and worcester thing...you dont relocate them because of leases and because they are successful clubs you demote them because its too far of a trip from LA to manchester nh. pretty simple The AHL is more east coast than the east coast league. This allows teams o be able to restructure the minors and got to true 1:1:1 pro hockey. pretty simple more player sin the system = better for teams. Juniors doesnt mean in the system it means you have their right...and then some coach in the WHL doesnt have to listen to you.

"A TYPICAL CANADIAN REACTION NOT UNDERSTANDING" are you kidding, you just opened a can of whupass. Juniors to AHL to NHL has worked just fine for a very long time, we don't need to call it AA like baseball, even though it pretty much works the same.

Its a fact every canadian on here scoffs at the idea of more pro minor hockey and dont want the chl to be disturbed at all. If i was an nhl gm id hate hate hate some juniors coach being in charge of my draft picks. after 18 juniors is useless to nhl execs they would rather have their kids under their control. i just dont see Juniors being beneficial when they are drafted when they can be in the nhl coaching tree learning the system. ..oh and not to mention more goalies in the system. just makes sense Juniors is not the same. It just isnt. Its keeping players outside the system when they can be developing.

btw anyone who knows me on here knows im not anti canadian, iv been arguing for canada's return of NHL teams for years. In fact i think ECHL provides an awesome opportunity for possible canadian expansion into smaller canadian markets and american markets near by canada (a north dakota Jets echl club for instance)
I can joke with you guys, A typical canadian response...sounds like shouting at a hockey game while drinking a delicious brew.

I agree with having a legitimate AA farm league. Having a player like Ehlers go back into the CHL to dominate a bunch of 16 year olds is a waste of time and a waste of development. He needs to be playing where he's being challenged by real men and competitors. Ideally that would be under the wing of the Jets development team, not a CHL coach.
