As some of you know and have given me a hard time about my 10 year old son is a Buffalo Sabres fan. Rochester their AHL affiliate plays here in Oklahoma City tomorrow. My son has been looking forward to this for over a month he has become friends with a kid in his hockey development class that is a Sabres fan his father is from Buffalo so it makes sense.
As my son was coming off the ice this morning I asked him if he had asked his friend if he was going tomorrow since the Sabres farm team is in town for the last time, maybe they could meet up. We caught up to the kid and his dad walking to the parking lot my son asks his friend if they were going to the Barons game tomorrow since Rochester was in town. The kid looks at his dad like he my son was speaking German the dad says it's the Sabres farm team and no there is no reason to go since all of their good players have been called up due to all of the Sabres injuries. Then gives me and his boy a mini run down of who has been called up and sent down all season between the two clubs all year. I just stood there speechless thinking if the Ice Caps were to play in town I'd do everything I could to be at the game I didn't care who suited up and who didn't. I kept this frame of mind most of the day then I decided maybe since he grew up in a city with an NHL team and I grew up in a small town in West Texas that has never had ice hockey and never will have ice hockey at any level the AHL is a big deal to me and it is not to him reguardless of how far he has ventured from his hometown.
Do those of you who are from a NHL market care to see Ice Caps or the affiliate of whoever your a fan of play?
It's a big deal to me I'd love for the Ice Caps or Pawtucket Red Sox play in Oklahoma City one time neither will happen anytime soon i'm sure.

Well I've long advocated that I'd like to have our farm team in Fargo. It'd be a great way to build up some North Dakota presence and it'd add a lot to our weekends in the deep south. Wife goes for the shopping, I go for the game.
If it was convenient I'd take in a few games.

Iv gone to a few AHL games to watch the P bruins play (mainly when Bergeron was in the farm system.
But needless to say if i was living out of the boston market i wouldnt care if the p bruins came to town. But needless to say id still go to the game since AHL tickets are cheap.
I dont really care about AHL hockey though, I love College Hockey and the NHL in between if someone else is buying ill go

AHL maybe, it could work it would like you say draw up a Jets fan base in N. Dakota which honestly isn't too far away. I could see an ECHL team working very well for that market. Natural geographical rivalry with Rapid city could form. Move the AA farm team to Fargo and out of the split in Ontario. North Dakota Sioux has a great hockey program and I have seen many pictures of that arena packed so the fan base for hockey is there.
I wish AHL tickets were cheap here most of the time here it's cheaper to go to OKC Thunder game than it is a Barons game. If we didn't love hockey in this family and was just an average sports fan I doubt I'd ever set foot in the Cox Center due to ticket prices. I think that among other reasons is why the business end of the Barons has failed on ice product has been great. Good thing is the Jr. Blazers and college games here are $5. so I can still get a cheap hockey fix.

Well lots of Sabres hats and jerseys in the house tonight so I'm not buying that Sabres fans don't care. Worked out for me everything in the Barons store is cheap non Barons pucks are $1-$3 buy 2 get 1 fee. 11 pucks for me and boys 1 Jets and 3 Ice Caps for me. Wife didn't kill me when we got home for it I'm happy.

If I could catch Ice Caps games on TV I'd tune in a few times a year.

I can't say that I'm a big fan of the AHL in general, but if the Ice Caps are playing I have a lot of interest in watching them, from a Jets prospects perspective.
Unfortunately between where the Ice Caps are stationed and the lack of any nearby AHL team, it's not easy to see Ice Caps games. I'm sure there would be some demand here in the 'peg to watch them on nights when the Jets aren't playing.

^ How far is Thunder Bay from Winnipeg? Would you guys make a few trips out there to see the odd game once the farm team is there?

I do my best to keep up with the Ice Caps on social media so I have somewhat of a clue as to what is going on with Jets prospects. I need to order a Caps shirt or hat just to throw the locals off even more than I already do with my Jets hoodie
