Spring training is upon us. I'm more excited this year than I have been in awhile. I'm looking for my Red Sox to bounce back and win the AL East. Boston had a great offseason I'm really looking forward to it.
So many are picking the Nationals to win the World Series. I picked them last year and they failed to come close so I'm not getting sucked in again but they do look like the best team in baseball.
I'm going to pick the Dodgers over Seattle in the Fall Classic.

^ I don't think Seattle has what it takes to make it to the World Series let alone win it. Washington brought in a lot of talent this offseason they look like the favourite to win it all.

I like the Sox chances this year to get to the playoffs but not to win it unless they get a top of the rotation guy...they have time to do that though.

I agree Boston needs pitching. I thought they had a few guys in hand but things fell through.

Washington is definitely the favorite. But they always choke in the playoffs. This might be a year or 2 early but watch out for the cubs. They have Jon Lester and will have the rookie of the year Kris Bryant to go along with all the other young talent.

Lester is an inconsistent regular season guy he will help them certainly but not sure will be the driving force. ..However if they can get to the playoffs Lester is a Boss in the big games and is lights out when it counts. So for the Cubs its getting in. Even a 1 game playoff. Because if you need 1 guy for 1 game...in this era? I go with Lester. He is just solid in big games.

Remember it's MUCH easier to pitch in the NL than AL east!!! My biggest worry is Javier Biaz isn't ready at all and he will be an out machine. Plus they are probably going to send Kris Bryant to the minors for April to save service time(delay free agency a year) Cubs are also probably 1 elite starter short yet. They have the $$$ due to all the young guys not making much to buy another ace next offseason like David Price, Jonny Cueto, Jordan Zimmerman. My guess is a winning record but missing the playoffs due to being 1 ace short and too young. Next year is the year I think when the truly can contend!!!

Everything I keep reading says the Cubs are 2 years away from being really good.

You are probably correct. ESPN said they have the number 1 farm system in the game and number 1 prospect(Kris Bryant). If everything went 100% maybe the could win sooner but my guess is an 83-79 season finishing behind the Cardinals and Pirates.

If and when the Cubs become a contender it will be one of those things I have to see to believe. I have heard them be hyped up in years past and it fall through. Although this time it seems like they are putting the puzzle together for real. "The experts" are really high on the future of the Cubs and as you said their farm system. I remember watching them daily back in the late 80's & early 90's on WGN they had so many great players but never could make a serious playoff run or make the playoffs at all. I know the fans are ready for the curse to be lifted it's been a long time coming. The NL seems to be loaded at the moment 3 teams that in my opinion could win it all and 2 more that are close behind plus the Cubs building up.
The AL has 2 or 3 good teams but nothing great. I guess you never know especially in baseball until all the games have been played. Many times we have seen a team come from the dumps the year before to play in the World Series.

In the late 80's/early 90's the team wasn't willing to spend the money and the farm system wasn't as good as this. They just had individual elite players like Sandberg, Maddux, Sutcliff, Dawson etc... but those teams had holes. Tribune Company didn't start spending until 2003 when they were almost done as owner. The Cubs have contended before 03, in 04 they were sports illustrated favorites to win it all, they contended in 07 and had the best record in 08 but choked. It's not the the Cubs can't contend. It's that they so far are cursed and can't win the world series.

I was so young back in those days farm systems and team payroll was so far over my head I didn't even think of it. In fact I was too young to realize Harry Carry was half drunk I just knew Dawson could knock the cover over the ball.
