Hoping for a cubs jays series...... I'd have to root for the cubs there, though i appreciate both fan bases. I'd love to see a white sox v mets series some day. The two second teams in the top cities. Jays have a good fan base(considering circumstances) but the ownership is the worst in sports. It would be a travesty if Rogers got to host the trophy just like it was when Reinsorf/Loria/Carl Polad won it. A team that locks itself willingly into lower 2/3rds revenue due to a love of a circular dome but still wins it all somehow would be a blight on the sport. If you want the second teams in the 2 biggest cities it would be Mets vs. Angeles. yea i consder the angels to be orange county and not actually LA.

They are LA(suburban LA). It's the same metro! Big thing is look at their TV deal, sponsorship's, overall franchise value, attendance. Sox won't match the Angeles in any of these categories even post Reinsdork once he dies.
Forbes has them ranked 8th in franchise value at $1.3B. By my count as best as I can keep track they have the 6th best TV deal(They are on a $150M per year deal with 25% equity in the network). Ballpark Digest had a lot of articles way back when the changed they name to Los Angeles Angeles of Anaheim about how doing that gave them big market sponsorships which they didn't have pre goofy name change.
Here is the Angeles attendance since they renovated their stadium for the 98 season making it baseball only.
Year Average- League average-Rank 1998 31,102 29,388 13 of 30 1999 27,815 29,234 16 of 30 2000 25,518 30,096 19 of 30 2001 24,671 30,080 20 of 30 2002 28,463 28,169 16 of 30 2003 37,791 28,178 5 of 30 2004 41,675 30,578 3 of 30 2005 42,033 30,970 4 of 30 2006 42,059 31,420 5 of 30 2007 41,551 32,819 5 of 30 2008 41,194 32,543 6 of 30 2009 40,005 30,351 5 of 30 2010 40,133 30,161 5 of 30 2011 39,090 30,366 5 of 30 2012 37,800 30,885 7 of 30 2013 37,278 30,514 7 of 30 2014 38,221 30,452 5 of 30 Totals 36,259 30,365
Overall based on historically attendance in current parks since 1989 by average the 36,259 puts the Angeles 6th in the league!
Note- I didn't do attendance for this season yet since I'm busy with the Cubs yet. Looking quickly at ESPN the Angeles ranked 5th in the league with 37,194 this season.
Keep in mind too how MLB revenue sharing works. The top 15 markets are ineligible for revenue sharing(Oakland is exempt until a new park opens though they may waive this for them since the Bay Area isn't a true shared market like NY, LA, Chicago). If you went by the 3M for just Orange County you would be sending the Angeles revenue sharing!LOL That's like having a fund raising drive for Warren Buffet because he's not rich. If Orange County alone was pulling off what I listed above they'd be better than Cub/ Red Sox/Cardinal fans without a doubt!
Look at payrolls too. The Angeles ranked 7th with 150M. They gave Pujols a quarter of a freaking billion dollars and gave Mike Trout a $144.5M extension for 6 years.
The proper way to look at LA is a gigantic blob of 18M people(this counts Riverside). Chicago is 9M plus. Downtown LA is only 26 miles and there's a gazillion people in-between Anaheim and downtown. It's only 36 miles to Riverside and there's nothing but people in-between. There's just too many freaking people everywhere!!!

Angles/Mets/Rangers etc.. are a good model of what the Blue Jays would be with proper management/a real park financially and attendance wise. Someplace 6-12 overall but not up with Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Cubs, Giants.

Mets beat the Dodgers tonight. Very bad news for the Cubs. The Dodgers were a shakey team that hid behind their 2 aces(Kershaw/Grienke). Their rotation didn't have much behind those 2 and their offense didn't scare me.
For all the talk about randomness of the playoffs so far in each series the best team won(not record but best team). Cubs better take the 1st 2 games with Lester/Arrieta because games 3 and 4 the cubs will be badly outmatched on the mound. The Mets are 4 deep with Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergard, Jacob DeGroom and Steven Martz.

Well we lost game one tonight. Cubs played well other than the Kris Bryant drop at 3rd. Matt Harvey was awesome. I think we are in major trouble. Here are the rest of what I think will be the pitching matchups and my predictions(Note- Neither team has announced it's rotation beyond game 2)
Game 2- Arrieta vs. Syndergaard
I think the Cubs even it tomorrow. Arrieta won't have 2 bad games in a row and Syndergaard threw over 100 pitches warming up a bunch of different times Thursday night.
Game 3- deGroom vs. Hendricks
A total mismatch. Mets win
Game 4- Matz vs. Hammel
This is in favor of the Mets but Matz is inexperienced. Maybe the Cubs keep up to the Mets and turn it over to the bullpen early. Hammel sucks!!! I'll say a Mets win. If I was Maddon I'd go Hammel and game 3 and concede the loss and put Hendricks against Matz.
Game 5 Harvey vs. Lester
Lester deserved better tonight and game 1 against St. Louis. He will save the season. I could be totally wrong here. Hard to bet against Harvey after tonight but he did get hit in the shoulder with a line drive.
Game 6 Arrieta vs. Sydergaard
Sydergaard does better than game 2 but Cubs win a close one
Game 7 Hendricks vs. deGroom
Mets in a rout. Cubs go into the offseason looking for 1-2 more stud starters in free agency(Price, Zimmerman, Grienke etc...) Hopefully Hammel is traded/gotten rid of.

Cubs are getting swept! Can't believe Arrieta did so poorly again tonight. 2 bad starts in a row! I still say Toronto wins it all but good god was the Syndergaard for Dickey trade awful!

Another loss tonight. Tomorrow will be worst with Hammel starting. Tonight was the 1st night they played really bad with defensive miscues by Montero, Bryant and Schwarber. 1st 2 games the Cubs just got beat by a better team, tonight they looked like the old Tribune Company Cubs.

Still can't believe it. It still seems like a dream. You'll laugh at this but I thought I'd die and never see them win.

Just curious - why do the White Sox seem to get such short shrift? I'm glad the Cubs finally won but the Sox did it too...

Just curious - why do the White Sox seem to get such short shrift? I'm glad the Cubs finally won but the Sox did it too... m. Biggest reason is the owner Jerry Reinsdorf is totally unlikeable. He owns the NBA Chicago Bulls too and he broke up the Michael Jordan/Scottie Pippen/Phil Jackson dynasty 2 years prematurely. They won 6 titles in 8 years(91,92,93,96,97,98) and most people thought had 2 more runs. Other major crimes Reinsdorf committed was causing the 94 baseball strike(he was the ring leader), the White Sox had the 2nd most talented team other than the Expos that year and after the strike Reinsdorf broke them up due to $$$, let Harry Caray go to the Cubs. So when the Sox won people in Chicago were happy they won but not happy Reinsdorf won. Other than the Cubs winning it all my happiest day as a Chicago sports fan will be when he dies. He's very similar to Bill Wirtz only even Wirtz was a step up. Beside Reinsdorf other reasons they don't make a big a deal for the Sox winning was they had no famous curse. Cubs had the Bill Goat, Red Sox had the curse of the Bambino. Also the reason they made such a big deal of the Cubs/Red Sox was because they are considered more loveable due to their famous ballparks. Wrigley and Fenway are the 2 best sports facilities ever built. The most amazing record in sports history is Fenway has made it 104 years and Wrigley 102 years and both still going very strong. The whole retro park craze that saved baseball and brought it back from the dead was that Larry Luchinno then the president of the Orioles figured out that the reason the Cubs/Red Sox drew(despite sucking mostly) was because of their old time parks so he built a new park in Baltimore that had that old time feel then everyone copied that. The White Sox park was built 1 year before the retro craze though they did renovate it in the early 2000s to make it somewhat retro like. Still other than Oakland, Tampa, Toronto and maybe Anaheim it's the bottom tier of parks. It's kind of MLB's MTS Centre. It gets the job done, it's modern but that's it. Bear minimum of what is acceptable. Once Oakland and Tampa get new parks and Anaheim renovates other than Toronto it will be on the bottom.
