LOL!! Hey St. Louis is awfully beat up. No Carlos Martinez etc...
If things don't go the Cubs way at least they have a lot more chances with this group. It's not like the 2007/08 Cubs where you had an aging group who had to win.

The thing is we are probably one starter short. Kyle Hendricks or Jason Hammel DO NOT BELONG as a number 3 starter. This is the Cubs biggest weakness other than lack of experience. Arrieta at this point seems invincible(watch me jinx him tomorrow) and Lester is a good number 2. We got lucky yesterday! Jamie Garcia was sick and self destructed. Hendricks threw well for a while but gave up back to back home runs and only made it 4 2/3rd innings giving up 3 runs. To do real damage we can't afford any more loses when Arrieta/Lester are on the mound.

On to round 2 for the Cubs!!!! Another pathetic effort today though from a starting pitcher other than Arrieta/Lester. I think next round they should activate Dan Haren and make him the number 3 starter. Haren pitched better after sucking at first when he came over from the Marlins. He has no business being a number 3 starter either but what can you do? Hammel sucked the entire 2nd half other than his last start in Milwaukee. Today he goes 3 innings and gives up 2 runs.

Congrats! I'm not a baseball fan but I pay attention when the Cubs or Jays are in the mix. Lately I've rarely had to pay attention. But man it'd be sweet to see the Cubs go all the way. m.

I grew up in Chicago, Cubs fan all my life. I remember in 1969 Cubs were far out in front of the Mets for the pennant, I went to many games that summer at Wrigley, then the massive collapse in September.
They used to wheel these big huge black and white TV's into our classrooms in September so we could watch the games while at school, sadly they lost most of them that month.

If the Cubs go all the way it would be the greatest accomplishment in all of sports to end a 107 year curse.

That was way before my time but I've heard plenty of stories about how the Cubs collapsed that year and the story of the black cat at Shea Stadium. Man would it suck if the Mets did it again and knocked us out next round.

Hoping for a cubs jays series......
I'd have to root for the cubs there, though i appreciate both fan bases.
I'd love to see a white sox v mets series some day. The two second teams in the top cities.

The two second teams in the top cities. Jays have a good fan base(considering circumstances) but the ownership is the worst in sports. It would be a travesty if Rogers got to host the trophy just like it was when Reinsorf/Loria/Carl Polad won it. A team that locks itself willingly into lower 2/3rds revenue due to a love of a circular dome but still wins it all somehow would be a blight on the sport. If you want the second teams in the 2 biggest cities it would be Mets vs. Angeles.

What is the split outside of chicago for cubs whitesox fans There aren't many Sox fans outside Chicago even though they are/were on WGN. Cubs are regional because of Wrigley/Harry Caray/WGN. Sox have a hard enough time drawing in Chicago these days. That won't change until Reisdorf dies. Once he's gone the Sox will be similar to the Mets/Angeles. They won't ever be popular outside Chicago though.
