I didn't include the Bombers for obvious reasons. (If you live outside of Manitoba then I'll tell you that i didn't include them because they haven't been a well-run sports team since basically the 1980's. Including them in this poll would have strictly been for comic relief).

I went with 'team that doesn't exist any more'. Moose 1.0.
The Avco Cup winning Jets came to mind but they always had financial issues.

^ Moose 1.0 were better-run than the Wheat Kings or Goldeyes?
Sorry, I don't buy that at all.

This is a silly poll, it really is. Having said that though, it's quite obvious that the Jets 2.0 are the best run team in the province. I'm talking ice plex, SHED, True North Sqaure. Those alone stand head and shoulders over the rest . And to include teams that no longer exist?? So silly. There are reasons why they aren't here anymore. Lol

Surprised there's no love for the Goldeyes. To me it was a toss-up between the Fish & the Wheaties. The Wheat Kings just seem to have an awesome team every single year, despite limited playoff success.

Consistent playoff team - ( no they weren't) Always in the black - ( from what I understand they lost TONS of money while playing in the WEC-controlled Wpg Arena) got a new arena built - ( um, no. We desperately needed a new arena to attract more concert & get rid of WEC. The Moose had little to do with it. I remember going to games in the old Wpg Arena days where there were maybe 2,000 ppl in the rink for a mid-week Moose game. Quebec City, Las Vegas, & Kansas all built beautiful new arenas with no tenant) paved the way for the ROTJ - ( wrong again. Please, point out the minor-league team in Carolina, Minnesota, Anaheim, etc that they needed to support to be awarded an NHL team. I'll give the answer for you - they didn't have to support anything. The NHL came back to Wpg because Manitoba desperately wanted an NHL franchise and we had an NHL ownership group and an NHL calibre arena) The Moose 1.0 were Vancouver's leftovers and gave Winnipeg's children & parents somewhere to hang out in the winter. That's about it. But I appreciate your point of view. I just strongly disagree. The Brandon Wheat Kings & the Winnipeg Goldeyes are (by far) the best-run sports teams in Manitoba, and have been for many years now. No other team (other than the Jets 2.0) come close. Granted- that's just my opinion but I feel strongly about it. To further illustrate my point (respectfully), I'd like to point out how their was an entire book written about how the Moose 1.0 were the most unwanted minor league sports team in history. Check it out: www.amazon.ca/View-Section-26-Featuring-Unwanted/dp/1512263788/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1454478157&sr=1-1&keywords=most+unwanted+teamHardly the ideal effect the "greatest-run sports team in Manitoba history" has had, wouldn't you say?

Consistent playoff team - made the playoffs 13 out of 15 seasons. That's a perennial playoff team. Made the second round seven times. Made the third round twice. Made the finals once. Always in the black - but for the first couple of seasons they broke even or better. Got the new arena built - yup, if there was no Moose there'd be no arena. The need absent the team was irrelevant, no one was building an arena without at least an AHL team. Everyone who thinks that Winnipeg would have built a new arena just for concerts please speak up. {crickets} And there's no NHL in Winnipeg without the Moose. If Mark hadn't started a relationship with Bettman and the NHL through the IHL / AHL merger things wouldn't have unfolded the way they did. The route followed by Carolina and Anaheim is irrelevant. Firsthand knowledge of that tidbit, btw. BTW: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manitoba_Moose#HistoryBTW one does not bolster their position by drawing on material published by Curtis Walker. They detract from it. They deride it. My CPU is dirtied by having clicked on that link. Oy! m.

Well... yeah, ok, I'll give you that one.
They are regions granted NHL teams by Gary Bettman and the NHL. So was Winnipeg. They didn't have to support minor hockey. Neither did Minnesota (the Minnesota Moose folded after -what- 2years due to lack of interest? Minnesota's reward? AN NHL EXPANSION TEAM!), Tampa, Miami, Atlanta Nashville, etc. ... sooo... why did Winnipeg? Explain please. This is my whole issue with the Seattle situation. Everyone & their dog merely thinks "build a new arena - we'll give you an NHL team! And it'll be super successful!" ... yet Winnipeg had to bend over backwards, pretend to care about the AHL & meaningless exhibition games first (to, y'know "prove" we love hockey).. in order to be given a look by the NHL.
And please tell me how the owners of Atlanta, Carolina, Nashville, Minnesota, Columbus, Anaheim, etc. managed to get to know Gary Bettman without owning a minor league AHL franchise. The way you explain it, it sounds impossible...
Once again, I point you to Quebec City, Las Vegas, Kansas City, and a few others I'm sure I'm forgetting. In the last year at the Wpg Arena I went to quite a few Moose games. "Announced" attendance was in the 5,000 - 6,000 range. Actual attendance? I kid you not... maybe 3,000. And the arena was a morgue. The Moose 1.0 were well supported at the MTS Centre because people liked the new arena, and it was all we had, and it was some place for parents to drop their kids off for a few hours. That's literally it.
ANNNYWAYS.... this forum is pretty dead. And it appears like the Jets 2.0 will be the winner for this poll (surprisingly). The Wheat Kings & the Goldeyes will always be the best-run sports teams in Manitoba to me. Well, until the Jets 2.0 start making the playoffs on a reg. basis.....

Goldeyes and Wheatkings are very well run franchises. But they are not the big leagues, so IMO they are not comparable. Sorry if I hurt your feelings delicategenius.
