Rumour has it the Sabres want to trade him ASAP, with the Islanders and Avalanche being two possible teams that may be interested.

He probably was. It was just covered up, just like the unpaid bills (I have two friends who swear it happened at the place they were working). He also has had legal problems in Vancouver. With social media these days...it was covered up? But suddenly it can't be in Buff? Ok. Posted w/ Grumpz D-vice Actually I think it would be much easier for Chipman et al to cover something up in Winnipeg than it would be for Pegula to do so in Buffalo. The motivation would also be a little different as TNSE is very conscious of its standing in Winnipeg, where the Buffalo Sabres organization is a smaller fish swimming in a bit of a bigger pond in Buffalo. I've also heard rumours (just rumours) that TNSE has circled the wagons around other players that have had personal difficulties.

I hear you, but if he was in Wpg flirting with the cops, it couldn't be covered up. Posted w/ Grumpz D-vice

Read the book "The Devil in Bobby Hull" and you will find out that unless a Jets star player is accused of something very serious, it will be covered up. The Police did it all the time with Bobby Hull.

So according to TSN Kane is facing non criminal harassment charges.
In my world, grabbing a women by the throat while trying to force her into a car is all kinds of criminal.

Evander Kane will face non-criminal charges for Buffalo bar incidents "Sabres forward Evander Kane put his hands on four people – three women and a man – at a Chippewa Street bar during the early morning of June 24, but he will face non-criminal harassment charges for his actions against just two women, two police sources familiar with the case told The Buffalo News. The charges will be lodged in connection with grabbing two women – one of them by the neck – and are based on witness statements and surveillance camera video, the police sources said. Kane also yanked the hair and grabbed the throat of a third woman, but she has not come forward to press charges, the sources said. In addition, Kane grabbed a bouncer after the bouncer warned the hockey star to stop his aggressive behavior, the police sources said. Kane, who is 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, tried to engage the bouncer in a physical confrontation, the sources said. “The bouncer told him to knock it off,” one of the sources said of Kane’s physically harassing the women. “He put his hands on the bouncer, who could have crushed him, but the guy didn’t want to hurt him. It’s all on tape.” sabres.buffalonews.com/2016/07/07/evander-kane-will-face-non-criminal-charges-for-buffalo-bar-incidents/

So what does non-criminal mean, he writes a cheque and the issue goes away?

Buffalo Sabres winger Evander Kane turned himself in to police Friday on charges stemming from a June incident at a Buffalo bar.
Kane will be charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass and “up to four counts of non-criminal counts of harassment,” his attorney, Paul Cambria, told The Buffalo News. He plans to fight the charges.
“Without a doubt, he plans to defend himself against these charges,” Cambria said.
Some additional details about the alleged incident in question, via The Buffalo News:
“The allegations stem from an incident early on the morning of June 24 at the Bottoms Up bar, for encounters involving Kane, three women and a bouncer, sources familiar with the case told The Buffalo News.
“Kane put his hands on four people at the bar early that morning, including the bouncer and three women, according to police sources. Police allege that Kane yanked the hair and grabbed the throat of one of the women, while trying to push her into his car.
“Sources familiar with the case told The News Kane will face one count of misdemeanor criminal trespass — for allegedly refusing to leave the bar.”
The 2015-16 NHL season was Kane’s first with the Sabres. He spent the previous six with the Winnipeg Jets/Atlanta Thrashers, who drafted him fourth overall in 2009.
